General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / The dash is out
I actually found some free time this weekend to work on the Cougar so I decided to tackle a project that I have been dreading (more nervous really) for a while. Removing the dash and doing it without putting any cracks in it.

I took my time and when frustration set in, mostly from those darn locking tabbed electrical connectors, (I don’t think I have ever cussed at anything more in my life than when working with those) I took a breath, walked away for a few minutes and sipped on a cold beverage in the nice shade of the yard before heading backing in. My patience was eventually rewarded though as it came out crack free.  8)

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / Radio Equalizer connector/harness
I'm looking for the Radio EQ Connector and/or harness. If you have the complete harness that connects between the radio and the EQ, that would be great, but just the 10-pin female connector that plugs into the 10-pin male connector that is attached to the back of the EQ will do.

Thanks.

Lounge / Finishing my basp00get
I started this project a few years ago working on it here and there. It was delayed by many things but mostly the time to work on it was the biggest struggle. I did 90% of it myself with some help from friends who are in the trade (one is a master plumber, another is an electrician).

I hung the drywall for the office area and after that decided to hire the rest of the drywall out as I wanted the walls to be nice and straight and the corners crisp.

I had originally planned on a dedicated theatre room, but I lost that battle with my wife early on and it ended up as a large family room instead. The size and shape of the area doesn’t make it very acoustically appealing but overall I am happy with the way it turned out and it will be a much more usable space this way.

Normal TV viewing will be on the 58” plasma that will be mounted on the wall under the soffit at the end of the room. The soffit will “hide” the 100” projection screen that will come down for movies. My current surround set-up is 5.1 but I wired the room for 9.3.

There is also a kitchenette area with room for a full-size fridge and microwave. After the main room and office area are finished, I’ll move on to the other corner of the basp00get and finish my wife’s craft room and the bathroom.

This is the way it looked this morning and the drywallers started doing their part today so it should be ready for paint in a few days.
I still have a ways to go, but at least with the drywall up, it will actually feel like I've accomplished something. :D

Lounge / Any professional drywallers in the house?
I’m am finishing my basp00get and I am very close to starting the drywall process but I ran into an issue yesterday when I was insulating the waste pipe from the upstairs lav.
I noticed that the “” portion of the pipes were hanging lower than the joist by a bit. So I trimmed away the insulation I had just put on thinking that it would be enough, but it still isn’t.
After closer inspection, the pipe itself clears but not the s. I measured them and they are hanging below the joist by no more than a ¼”.
I really don’t want to build a soffit around this one section if I can help it, so I am wondering if it would be too taboo to just “divot” the 5/8” drywall in these three interference areas.
I’m sure having the pipes in direct contact with the drywall sheet will defeat any efforts I am taking to wrap them with sound deadener and insulation, but I think I can put up with a little bit of flushing water instead of an ugly box protruding from the ceiling.

Audio & Other Aftermarket Electronics / iPod questions
I'm thinking about an iPod Touch and plan on using it in my DD instead of constantly shuffling through 6 CD's at a time.
I’m looking at a 16 gig, but wondering if a 32 would be necessary or just overkill.

I plan on loading songs at 256k instead of 128k so the amount of advertised song capacity would be about 1/2.
That, plus various apps, and figured when on a family trip we would download 2-3 movies for my son to watch.
So I’m starting to wonder if even a 16 would be large enough.

Anybody have one that can give some real life experience?

Lounge / Why can’t Ford design a car that looks this good?
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/01/pariss-preview-four-door-lamborghini-estoque-unofficially-reveal/

Without revealing to him what brand it was, I showed these pictures to my Dad just to see what he thought about it. He is not a car guy and is very practical about his transportation purchases and I pretty much got the answer that I had expected..."I wouldn't buy one, it's too sporty looking".

How can a car be too sporty looking

Lounge / Always keep the lid to the toilet closed or you may be sorry.
I had a very interesting start to the day yesterday morning. At 5:30, my wife got up to use the bathroom and came running back to the bedroom waking me up to tell me there was something in the toilet. Our 7 year old son occasionally forgets to flush afterword and I told her that it was probably just that but she was insistent that it was not and that she thought it was something else.
I reluctantly crawled out of bed and made my way into the bathroom thinking that she was out of her mind. The bathroom light was off but there was plenty of light to see with just the night light on the wall. I lifted the lid and while I was still pretty groggy, I could tell right away that she was right; it wasn’t what I thought it was and I could see two little beady eyes looking up at me. I quickly slammed the lid down after I realized that there was a live black squirrel in our toilet!

I got dressed, and grabbed my leather work gloves from the garage with the intention of grabbing the little sucker, but then I thought if I didn’t get a good hold of him he would probably slip away and be tearing around the house, and I also thought that there was a good possibility of getting bit through the thin leather gloves; time to think of an alternative plan.
I went to the laundry room where I have some spare buckets and found a small spackling bucket with a lid. As I opened the toilet lid I quickly put the bucker over the squirrel, then turned it 90° and held it against the side of the bowl as I slid the lid over it. I had the little guy in the bucket and let him loose in the backyard. Surprisingly he didn’t put up much of a fight, but I would bet he was pretty exhausted from his little adventure.

We consistently close the lid on the toilet when we are finished otherwise I'm sure we would have had a mess with a squirrel loose in the house and our black Lab trying to chase it down.

More importantly though, I told my wife that it was a good thing she looked before she sat down otherwise it could have been a lot worse of an outcome than it was.

I’ll be up on the roof this weekend clamping some chicken wire over my vents.
