General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Ignition and door locks - where to find
I recently did this swap ... similar issue ... had a key that was for my driver's door and ignition and then another for my passenger side door due to a break in/theft issue many moons ago.  Drove me a little crazy at times, but never got around to actually fixing it until recently.  I threw a couple photos up in my Corbeau seat thread awhile ago if you search it.  I bought an NOS set on eBay, the ignition receptacle is black, but the door cylinders are chrome (as they should be for my particular application but I realize not for an XR-7).  The Ford part number for my set was E6SZ-6322050-A.  I would imagine the black set is a similar number ... maybe the same just with a different letter at the end.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Removing headliner board
The front and rear pieces kind of pop into place.  I can't remember if there is some type of spring clip in the center or not, but if you give it a gentle tug (don't bend it), they should pop right out.  I had the screws on either side out of the back one recently and it just kind of hangs there from the center section.

Electrical Tech / buttstuffog cluster question
Thanks for the info and link.  So, from searching other posts it seems that this resistor is supposed to get that hot.  I also read a couple of posts where folks recommend just removing this altogether.  Is that a viable option?  What other issues are you opening yourself up to by doing so?  I bought some soapstone and pulled the cluster back out of the car ... just debating how I want to move forward now.

Electrical Tech / buttstuffog cluster question
I currently have the buttstuffog cluster out of my car to replace the old white face gauge overlays with a new set.  I got the new overlays installed, cleaned everything up, and then just did a quick "test" re-install last night.

Question - does anyone know (or can you confirm) that the below spiral cable on the back of the cluster is some type of heat sink?  I plugged the cluster in and turned on my lights to illuminate the gauges and double check all of my bulbs.  The lights were on for maybe a minute or so before I removed the cluster from the car again.  When I reached back in to do so, this cable was pretty darn hot ... enough to burn skin upon touch.  I just wanted to see if anyone knew if this was supposed to be that hot or if I have some type of issue brewing.  All of the bulbs are standard replacements.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Fox Mustang door hinge pins=Fox Thunderbird door hinge pins?
I just replaced those on my driver's side a few months ago.  See below, before and after, exact same issue.  Bought mine on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-1983-1988-FORD-THUNDERBIRD-LOWER-DOOR-HINGE-CHECK-ASBY-E3SZ-6323504-A-NEW-/142275924746?hash=item21204e530a:g:ABUAAOSwiDFYPM6K&vxp=mtr

The part number is different than what Aerocoupe and Eric have called out above.  Had to buy two of them as the one on my car was two pieces stacked on top of each other.  A single one does not "push" back with quite enough force.  I have also seen these on Cougars/Tbirds in the salvage yard where there is a rubber bushing mounted on these facing the frame ... not sure if that causes a difference in the part numbers.  I did not have these on mine.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Poll Question - Head Light Cover Thoughts
Quote from: thunderjet302;460160
Head light covers need to go. They weren't tasteful years ago and time hasn't made them any better ;)

I'm not necessarily fond of them on 87 up cars.  Toying with stock headlight bezels ... blacking out the area around the lights, or doing body color ... choices, choices ...

Body/Appearance/Interior / Poll Question - Head Light Cover Thoughts
I've been recently toying with the idea of going back to the "stock" 4 eye headlight look versus my headlight covers and just wanted to get some opinions.  The car is modified and I think the headlight covers really go well with the overall appearance.  It's easy enough to use them/not use them, just need to remove the mounting tabs.  Just wanted to see what you guys think, sorry the pictures are not better, the car is currently in pieces.

Misc Tech / Rear bumper reinforcement
Curious/dumb question ... working on the rear body of my cat ... there are two different part numbers for the 83-84 and 85-86 rear metal bumper reinforcements.  The actual bumper covers are the same between 83-86 ... so ... does anyone know what the difference is in the reinforcement?  Assuming one could be used in place of the other without an issue.

Now you're stealing my thunder ... lol.

Yeah, I bought a Mark series switch plate and then pulled the overlay off of it.  I don't think these panels are the same between cars though.  The Mark series panel is wider left to right than the one for the Cougar/Tbird, at least in my case it is ... and it attaches to the dash with different screw mounting positions.  Maybe the Turbo Coupes had a wider panel with a wider opening cover as I know some had three switches located over there versus the two I have room for.  I was then able to remove the overlay off of the Cougar/Tbird panel and cut the Mark series overlay down to the correct size and install it on the Cougar/Tbird panel while maintaining the "REAR DEFOG" lettering.  I also cut the raised switch cover out of the Cougar/Tbird panel so that the overlay would lay nice and flat.  I didn't end up using the Mark series switch due to mounting depth and used one out of an Escort.  Here are shots of the two stock panels (Mark versus Cougar/Tbird), I'll try to get some better shots of my frank'n-panel this weekend.

Custom defrost label?

Wow ... that didn't take long for someone to notice!  Yeah, "custom" using all mid/late 80's vintage Ford parts and putting them together.  Wanted it to look like it belonged there from the factory.  I'm still working out some of the finer details and in the picture, it's just mocked up to test fit.  As Eric would say ... ancient Chinese secret ... at least for the moment.  I'll get some better photos and share the mod once I have it all worked out.

Buttoned up the remainder of the center console work and finished all of my audio and climate control re-install and wiring.  Removed the 93 Mustang "COBRA" hatch emblem I had on my cigarette lighter panel and replaced it with a "COUGAR" emblem.  This emblem is "font" correct, matching the emblem on the taillight.  I could be wrong but I believe it is actually off of a pre-83 Cougar.  Sorry about the flash, makes it hard to really get a good sense of the carbon fiber overlay I used on the dash trim pieces.  My next plans are to monkey with the seat tracks some more to see if I can't get a little bit lower.  I received my shaved bases back for the Corbeau seats and reinstalled them, but I'm still not happy with the overall height ... the saga continues ...

Well, wrapped up my driver's side door interior finally with the same speaker grate modification and happy with the results thus far.  I ended up changing my mind on the center console and took out the shorter 87/88 vintage and went back to the "correct" 85/86 full length style.  Bought a new NOS light switch/ash tray panel for this console since I didn't already have one of this variety laying around.  Installed my rear courtesy lights and plugged everything back in electrically.  I have two sets of the rear lights and one of the sets had pretty worn chrome paint on it.  I ended up using some rubbing compound to remove the remaining paint only to reveal that the original plastic underneath was pretty close to my charcoal gray interior.  Thinking I might just leave them this way ... add's to the whole "50 shades of gray" interior ... ha!

Steele Products makes nice stuff, that's what's in the eBay link.  Unfortunately, they don't make the actual window seal ... yet.  Everything in that kit is a door to body seal.  I've been hounding them and begging them to accept a used set from me for copying.
