Project Evolution *** Project Complete **** Wednesday July 9, 2014

Well, It all begins this week.
I had a couple hours today to do some work on my baby. Monday was going to be the official start of the car rebuilding but I couldn't wait until then. So here's a couple pre-project pics.

Here's a before, for those who haven't seen it

yet

and here's the floor in mid cut

inside rocker cut , still needs more

here's a view from the outside rocker looking into the car.
you can see through the pass. side window from here
hey, there's the e-brake cable

here's some prefab metal work where the wheel well meets the floor and rocker

inside view of outer rocker front

I figured there would have been more rust inside the frame. just some surface rust.
so anyway, the floor is already bent up and ready to be cut to size.
the inside rocker will be cut out where rotted. and a new piece welded along side the old one for added strength.
everything will be blasted and encapsulated before and after the new pieces are welded in

I'm glad the pass. side is in a lot better shape

monday starts my 2 week car body rebuild.
I should have new pics  every evening. ---If everything goes well.

You're the man!! Way to save a Fox instead of sping it. Of course, it's easy for me to say when you're the one doing all of the work. Anyway, I'll be looking forward to seeing the updates.

yeah I'd be up for that, but it is a little further then 20 minutes, I am about an hour away from the peace bridge.

I will get some pics today of the floor pan in mine, Mine is covered in rust but the holes are nowheres near that size.....  I have almost all the good metal I need to weld it back up, except the floor pans, may just fabricate something like you are doing...

Keep up the good work, you have given me a renewed inspiration in my restoration....  Thanks.

Wow, good luck with the project. I give you a lot of credit for attacking this and you're doing a great job so far.

I had a '76 Camaro that rotted out much the same way on both the driver and passenger side. I wanted to save that car but every metal body panel was rotted through along with the dash and cowl so it was sold for parts :(

***********Today's update********************

Today I spent a couple hrs. working on my baby.
here's what I did ......

fitted and cut the floor pans I bent up the other day
you can see the inner rocker repair in the 2nd pic

the white around the patch is from media blasting the rust

Here's another shot of the inner rocker

Bent up one of these this morning

Here's a shot of a dry fit on the car over the existing one.
I couldn't make the 1/4" step in the rocker so I ran a 1/4" bead down it where the step would be. I don't think anyone will notice.

I'll have to put the quarter on before the rocker. or at the same time.
the quarter panels are from a TC (thanks to a friend with a last minute idea) so it has to be cut below the body line where the stripe is on my car. the door jamb will be replaced with the red one  and spliced in next to the side window. The panel will have to be cut and spliced just behind my back lights because the cougars wrap around farther then the TC's.
not my favorite thing to do, but you have to use what you can find, seeing birds are easier to find then cougars. esp. 87-88s

the panel will be separated from the well with some of the bracing. some will be cut out of my car to make it easier to replace.
I'll post pics of that job. should be next on the list.
this will give you an idea of what's in there

took care of some other rust problems.

here's a shot of the good rocker on the pass. side

and the hole to patch on the pass. side floor

I guess, not a bad day for a couple hrs. I'm juggling my car rebuild with the last of the house remodeling. so it might take a few days longer on the car then i figured.
I'll finish dry fitting  and weld the patches including repair the pass. side floor before the quarters get cut off.

I know someone has to have a question after all that. lol

and yes I have pics of how i made the rocker if anyone wants to know how.---Its pretty easy
