Lounge / I'm back in the game I guess
Hey y'all, been a hot decade and then some...

I bought an 88 TC a few weeks ago and sold my 96 Cobra SVT and 92 Bronco.

Surprisingly I remembered my old login.

Lounge / The exodus has begun...
Today eBay's new feedback policy went into place (neutrals now count as negatives, sellers can only leave buyers positive feedbacks). 3,500 sellers and counting left for ecrater, 1,500 and counting left for onlineauction. One of the Top 5 All-Time eBay sellers completely closed down shop. The CEO that came up with the "brilliant" plan announced he's stepping down as well. This is going to be ugly...

Lounge / Hehehe...the next mod just arrived!
The latest mod for the cop car is here! It's a big ole bottle, some hoses and wiring, and a nozzle setup. :D Need to decide what solenoids I want to run, build a purge kit, and install. Can somebody say 13's @100+? :hick:

Lounge / Just got back from the race track!
You guys should have seen me tear up the autocross course in the 'Vic! :burnout:

The course was really tight! The opening gate was a 90* Chicago style turn and the outlet was so narrow that it just wouldn't fit. I hit the last cone in the box with the tail of the back bumper on nearly every single run. :hick:

I did manage a 44.830 (FTD was a 36.3 ish? in a Carerra 2.7 RS and most of the Boxter's/Caymen's were in the 46's so I was mid-pack. Slow man out was a 47.9 in a 914). :shakeass:

I got 10 runs which was awesome. I'm beat! When are any of you going to try it? :beatyoass:

I also ran the brackets Saturday night.

ANOTHER WIN!!!

Four more rounds and another certificate for the wall. My reaction times: 1st round - .174 (I know, I know, but his was a .345!!!), 2nd Round - .086, 3rd - .018, Final - .026, Bonus Round 1 - .030, Bonus Round 2 - .078.

At The Track / Autocrossing results!
The autocross today was AWESOME! John and I both got 8 runs. The RX-7 ended up with a 44.795 best time (John got 43.887 in the GTO). We were smack in the middle of the pack. The weather held and the sun even came out!

If you haven't tried autocrossing, you will want to. It's the most fun you can possibly have in a car legally (...while actually driving...).

Oh and the RX-7 went 16.34@85 in the 1/4 with a 2.6 60', the clutch is just dying! We're going to change it out this week for more racing. (Raced Friday night with 22 passes in the 'Vic, Saturday night with 7 passes bracket racing in the RX-7, and then 8 autocross runs today, next weekend is PIR TNT Fri and Sat night and Woodburn Import Shootout on Saturday):burnout:

At The Track / Yay! Went faster! New PB!
Just got in from the races (Friday night T-N-T at PIR). You all should have gone! There were EIGHT cars running! EIGHT!!! (Are you listening Ted? Jim? Matt?)

A 12-second blown Buick GS was there, a Viper, a few Hondas, and that was IT. I made 21 passes (didn't get there until 7, took 45 minutes off to eat, and let the car cool down a bunch). It was just DEAD, but the weather was awesome! REALLY cold (great for the car!) I beat everybody but the Viper and the GS. Some of the Honda's were mid-14 cars but they couldn't cut a light.:mullet:

I set a new PB in the 'Vic (14.854@92.37, 2.161 60').:burnout:  Even better was I cut a .001 light! (and a -.001...):flame:

I'm all practised for tomorrow's bracket race! Too bad I won't be driving the same car! (Taking the RX-7 tomorrow )

Engine Tech / My 302 build for the Challenge Race Car - cam question?
OK, a little background. That 84 Turbo Coupe I made John drag home last year finally has a purpose in life. We're turning it into a race car for the Grassroots Motorsports $2009 Challenge. For those of you not familiar with the Challenge, you have to build the entire car for $2009 or less (and be able to prove it), and it has to compete in a 1/4 mile drag race, a timed auto-cross course, and a judged concourse. Obviously a heavy-butt TBird with a 302 isn't the "hot" setup, but it's what we have, what we're familiar with, and our goal is simply to finish and still have a running car. That being said, we do still want to give it our "best shot" and maybe even eek out at least a Top-10 in the drag race.

OK, so the motor is a roughly 84 vintage 302 CFI with a hydraulic flat-tappet cam that's all of 150HP (maybe...). Obviously a rebuild is in the cards!

So I was at the Portland swap meet today and I picked up a new "regrind" cam for the 302 (for $35!) from a fairly well-known shop. Specs are as follows:

INTAKE:
.439" lift
207* @ .050
258* advertised
EXHAUST
.454" lift
215* @ .050
265* advertised

115* LSA, 36* overlap

And it's a 351 firing order.

So, is this going to meet our needs? The plan is to acquire a set of GT40 (non-P) heads, an RPM Air-Gap intake, and higher-compression pistons for the build. Nitrous is the current plan for a power adder, but we are kicking around the idea of turbo/blower...

Lounge / Toyota caught with their pants down - Tacoma Rust
http://blog.lexus.com/2008/03/living-up-to-ou.html#more

Some of the blog comments really make a lot of sense. What is Mom's Friendly Robot Company (Toyota) going to do for the thousands of people who had to junk/sell their Taco's already?

I don't know about you guys, but maybe looking around some used car lots is a good idea right now :hick:

At The Track / Results from last night's racing, you'll want to read this!
So I took the P71 drag racing last night at PIR ;)

Just to spoil the fun already, 14's on the very first pass! :shakeass:

I was bracket racing with PDXCGP (Portland Club Grand Prix, we have an 01 Grand Prix GT). We had 16 cars in the race, I got three qualifying passes (14.923@92.27 with a 2.196 60', and a 14.937@93.51!).

First round I dialed in 14.91, cut a .089 light (to a .448!!), I was ahead by so much I slammed on the brakes to prevent a breakout and won. :hick:

Second round I cut the dial in to a 14.87, and ran a 14.885@92.53 (my new personal best! With a 2.209 60'), margin of victory was .0188!!! :burnout:

Third round I left the dial in at 14.87 and ran a 14.887@92.86!! Margin of victory was .0429, too bad it was the other guy, he broke out with a 14.89 on a 15.00 dial in!

So then came the finals, with the two 14.88's in a row I decided to tempt fate and changed the dial in to 14.88, I was running against a 14.60. I cut an .060 light and made him redlight! I still went a 14.920@92.41 while screaming "I WON!!!!" the whole time! :D

So I WON my first bracket race ever! I got a $100 gift certificate, double points in the yearly championship, and I have to hold the "Top Dog" until I lose the lead (a stuffed dog, I asked them if it made me a K9 unit now).

I went from the downer yesterday of breaking the RX-7, to a new personal best, and my first victory! I was ecstatic the whole night!
