Electrical Tech / Light on Dashboard - BRAKE - no brake lights
Quote from: Thunder Chicken;430922
Now that you know why the light was on, it's time to find out why the fluid was low. Brake fluid goes low by two methods: Leaks or worn out pads. If your pedal is hard and doesn't sink while holding it down I'd lean toward the pads being worn...

The pads are probably worn, I got the car back in 2012 and never did anything with it (besides oil change, valve cover gasket, all the intake gaskets, and spark plugs and wires)I did also find some scary wiring job for the headlights which could have got me killed if I had chose to ever drive this car in the state it was in previously, I was driving around the neighborhood at twilight just trying the car out, when the headlights went totally dead.

I live in the country, so theres no street lights anywhere but the main city, if I was on one of the dark winding backroads and this had happened, I am pretty sure the car would have been totaled and no clue what state I would be in.

That has since been fixed(moved the whole wiring harness from my parts car), it's been in pieces ever since I got it really, but now it's all been put back together and is now ready for the road.

anyway... Ive gone off topic, thanks for all the help.

So I went out today and checked my brake light switch and yes 1 of the wires was broken off, I also have fixed "Brake" on the dash being on by simply filling up the brake fluid reservoir thanks to Thunder Chicken for that advice.

The lights light up with headlight switch, turn signals work, there is still some Frankenstein wiring in the trunk in the inner tail light bulb, someone replaced the Plus pattern socket with some random regular auto bulb, going to cut where they did and rewire stock setup back in.

88 Tbird Turbocoupe

I've been spending the past 4 days cleaning up my Frankenstein car that some kid thought he could wire himself with solder and s wire.
I finally got done fixing the turn signal wire he chewed up and now I am trying to figure out why BRAKE light is on, on my dash and that none of my brake lights work now, I was hoping to get the car inspected today, but this is holding me back.

Checked #1 fuse, looks fine.
My parking brake does have like 2 inches of slack when its all the way up though. Although I don't think that would cause my brake lights to not work.
If I need to swap out a part, I have a whole parts car at my disposal so let me know.

Thanks.

Body/Appearance/Interior / 93 Tbird LX 5.0 HO - New changes
Thanks all, as to what is next on the to-do list, I'm going to be changing the exhaust on it, it's way too quiet for what it is, I was thinking about some FlowMaster Super 40's they had the best sound that I could find on YouTube videos, Headers are also going to be coming soon, the stock ones look very restricting

Hey all,

What you guys think of these changes, you can see how it was in my other thread.

I tinted the windows, removed the V8 badge from the side, replaced it with new mustang 5.0 badge, Added side skirts, and rear ground effects from SuperCoupe, painted outside of rims black while keeping the silver middle intact.

Thanks,
-Matt

the trans does get a little warm in the cab of the car, you can feel it thru the center console. although cooling the fluid might not fix that all that much..

Does the car get hot/overheat all the time with the A/C on, only in stop and go traffic/idle, or at high speed on the highway? If it's one of the first two the fan clutch is probably on it's way out. If it's the last one the radiator is probably plugged up.

All the time with the A/C on, and in stop n go, I haven't tried high speed on the highway yet, been cool enough to not use the A/C, but gotta fix it fast before California summer hits me.

What is the condition of the  radiator?  I could be old and plugged up and not cooling properly when the extra heat is pulled through it with the ac on.

I dont know much about the 93's, is the fan electric or mechanical?

The fan is mechanical, and the radiator looks good on the outside, looks new to me, but that could just be cause of the low miles of the car..

Car runs perfectly cool as long as you do not turn on the A/C.

It runs at just before the N of NORM on the temp gauge when I have the A/C off, if I turn on the A/C, the temp rises and rises until I turn it off, then goes back to its normal area.

I just changed the thermostat because I think this problem was T-Stat related. overflow was empty earlier from leaking out because i didn't torque the bolts to their specs, but I have fixed that now, and refilled the overflow bottle.

When the Fan clutch engages, is the wind noise under the hood suppose to be loud like on the 80's v8s, or is it generally quiet. Because I see the fan moving, and when I hear it engage, the noise never gets louder.

I may have a bad fan clutch, because under normal driving conditions, it doesn't need to engage the fan, but with the AC on it probably needs it, and cant engage cause of bad clutch.. So what do you guys think it is?

I changed the thermostat today, cleaned up the housing and mounting area, put a new gasket,  and cleaned all fittings, and hoses. definitely was the original thermostat, that thing put up quite the fight coming off, the hose was giving me hell. I almost sacrificed it and almost ended up cutting it, but I pulled with all my force and it finally budged.

The car runs like new now, after starting it and taking it around a few blocks a couples times, it got to operating temp and then the thermostat opened and the temp went down to cool side again, so its working awesome now, usually it would get to operating temp and then keep climbing.

I hadn't run it since finding this problem out, so I didn't damage anything.

Hooray :D

It's a clutch fan, came on just fine just now, car is at middle of Norm now after cooling off
