That's a ridiculous amount of power out of stock pistons/rods/crank. How long do they last at that level though? For durability's sake I could see upgrading the pistons, rods, and rod bolts, but that would defeat the purpose of going that fast with stock stuff.
I'm actually surprised the Mav was heavier than the '57.
For sure but its easy to do, they dont last real long turned all the way up unless conditions stay perfect all it takes is to bump the rev limiter and its gone at 10-20 psi they will live a nice long life
the differance will be the maverick was a street car and had nothing taken out really car was dynamatted from cowl to trunk which doesn't help either the 57 is slated to be a gutted hull race car
The '57 looks like a cool project. It should be fast as hell when it's done :).
The 5.3 LS is going in the '57 correct? Are you making it bigger (bore/stroke) or keeping stock displacement? Not that a 5.3 with a turbo lacks power by any means .
correct, stock shortblock stuff only here been chasing the record for a while 5.60's 1/8th mile. we were putting the power out to run this goal before just couldnt get it through the torque converter and the car didnt have the safety equipment to run legally at the track all out .this time it will and i know what it takes the 57 will be a lighter, straight race car. you can make 1200 h/p on a stock 4.8/5.3 ls bottom end before they start exploding rods. we were loosing 200-250 h/p through the sloppy converter
I honestly never had a problem with mine. I have had 4 or them now, 3 walked away or were borrowed to never be returned. With this ratchet, you can remove the started bolts from the wheel well on a 87v-6 cougar easily, without removing the wheel with a bunch of extensions. I used this as my only ratchet in my just yard kit and never broke one. A lot of people say they break easily, but I have put well over 100ft lbs through it quite a few time.
The handle does deteriorate though, the rubber and plastic wear away. But it will still be comfortable to hold. I want to order a 1/2" and 1/4" when I have some time and money. Also, this ratchet works very well when your doing a water pump on a 5.0 in conjuction with wobbly extensions.
got one in my tool box also great for tight places, i dont use it for general work but in places you cant get your hand it's a lifesaver
OP, SleeperTbird has a Chevy engine in a maverick, and I think he may have had an LS in a Fox car, and there's another member here that had a Caddy 500" in a Tbird. Not exactly what you're doing, but they may be able to give some advice. Also, there's a Fox-powered-by-GM thread on the corral, might be right up your alley.
i had a gen 1 in the old white car and in a 85 coupe mustang
all he needs is a set of simple homemade mounts (speedway sells some that can be used easy if your skills are lacking) and 1st gen camaro, chevelle, fullsize headers flowtechs number is like flt1100 irrc i have also used g body headers with sucess trans crossmember works change the driveshaft yoke to a gm style and enjoy it isnt a hard swap at all.
there is some pictures of my old swap here just search my user name
oh, nice...wish I could get my hands on a project like that
That was my thoughts when i bought it, after it was blasted there was little car left i've replaced a ton of metal and still working on that once i get the trunk pan and the driver fender patched i think i can move to driveline. ive got a 55 gmc truck straight axle to go under it and a explorer 8.8.engine will be the same one from the maverick backed by a powerglide this time. for once in my life ive almost gave this project up several times i just dont have the motivation i used to have or the money
1. This is all a matter of opinion 2. Its all a matter of preference. 3. Its all the original posters hard earned cash 4. He was seeking advice and thoughts on his build, and he posted 100% in the correct place in the forum. Drop a 351 or OTHER MOTOR IN YOUR FOX (thats the title of this section) No where does it state FORD motor. 5. Civility is totally gone here, and personal attacks have absolutely no place. 6. Ranting over who is right or wrong is a moot point, as the OP was merely asking for advice in a forum devoted to our beloved Fox Birds/Cougars. He has been a member for 4 months, is this how we encourage new members to stay and feel welcomed? 7. I personally know that a engine makes a car go, i am not a technical guy, or a guru. I come here to learn and ask advice and opinions from like minded people, many who have become my friends. Ford is to Chevy as Oranges are to Bananas. How do you firstly quantify that one is better? Secondly, as said earlier much is due to personal preference and comfort with a given product. 8. Finally, if one can't contribute to the dialogue here in some kind of constructive manner, then start a thread in "the Lounge" about how Ford is great and everything else sucks. But don't denigrate someone else's idea's, build or ride based upon some childish bias, especially when the OP did everything right with regard to the topic, placement and tone of his post. I think he is owed a huge apology, those who stepped on his thread, and Hijacked into a Ford/Chevy debate should own up.
I've always loved the Maverick. It's what the 70's Mustang should have been...
for sure, i like them alot cheap to own and build i hated to part with my 74 but i had the chance to buy this 57 and get another maverick also so i let it go
Not to shiznit on anyones parade. Its not what you have here that impresses us. Its what you make of what you have. That lemons into lemonade bullsh*t. Who cares if you have the money to drop on a factory 5 second deathtrap? I'm having way to much fun building my probably 13sec street beater pile of sh*t. As for sleeper and rj I've seen the things theyve had and thyre so much cooler and roots built than any miracle grow thow a tune on and have a 9sec quarter mile car. Money makes the wold go round but it takes more than a hefty price tag to turn this guys head. Some of the guys that no longer come on to the board here I idolized back in the early 2000's for what they did to the tbirds and cougars they had seeing this is primarily a fox tbird cougar forum hence the name. But since oh late 2008-2009 its been a complete zombie apocalypse of morons coming on here saying the things they do aren't right. F that. I have a hankering for throwing a 350 in my mustang just to get it to move.
Sit back; chill, take feedback, give feedback, offer advice, take advice orrrr the go the ultimate route stfu and let people do what they gotta do
yes it has... big time. i said that exact same thing when I came back here a few weeks ago. I will probably disappear from here again soon. sifting through some of these threads I cant believe the info and ideas getting posted. such a shame
same here maybe it was a mistake? how have you been
