Thanks for the replys. I hoping that I can fit the shifter in without having to install the full counsil. The car has a column shifter right now so I believe I have to flip the shifter conection bracket at the trans when I go to the B&M floor shifter right?
Hey has anyone ever put an aftermarket shifter (ie: B&M Quicksilver) in their fox Bird/Cougar? I was wondering how cleanly it could be installed. I know I'de probibly have to switch to a full counsil but I think I would have to cut it up to put in the shifter. Any pics would be great too :D . Thanks.
I'm not sure but I "think" that all those parts interchange. I know the main difference between a 302 and a 351 is that the bores are different sizes and that a 351 has a taller deck height.
Had a guy near my house once who had a black loaded 88 XR7 with 5,000 miles on it. That's right 5,000! He was seling it and he wanted $15,000 for it. Needless to say I didn't buy it but man it was a sweet car.
Yea painting the dis cap looks good. I painted mine Ford Blue (I really like that color for some reason) but ya can't see it in the pics cause it's covered by the dis dust boot. After I painted the cap I found a really good condition boot in the salvage yard and picked it up. Ended up wasting paint but it looked cool for about 2 days  . Hey by the way did ya clear coat the intake or not? I just painted mine with duplicolor paint and no clear. I thought the clear might yellow with the heat but mabey I'm wrong?
Thanks for the info guys. Hopefully I'll be able to get the engine together in the next year or two an actually have a fast Bird. One more question is it better to have my stock short block rebuilt with new pistons or get a remanufactured short block from Advanced auto or some place like that?
So I could run any head intake combo with speed density as long as I don't change the cam right? Thanks for the suggestion on edelbrock heads. I'de like to run cast iron for durability (I've had some bad experiences with aluminum heads) but not the stock HO e7's. I haven't gotten heads yet so thanks for the link. I'de get em but I just bought a new daily driver and all my money for the bird went to that car so I got to wait awile to get parts. On a side note has anyone had experiences with the World/Rousch 180 or 200 iron heads? Thanks again.
Thanks for looking at my Bird. I'll eventually repaint the car cause after 17 years the paint still looks great but it has a few dents and small scraches and I want it to be perfect. I'm going to paint it the same factory colors cause after 3 years they grew on me and I really like them. Besides it'll make a great sleaper. Hey Bird351 you painted the manifold Ford Blue too? I thought I was the only one who did that. When I got the HO manifold it was dirty and I didn't want to paint it stock silver and I thought Ford blue would look cool. Kinda goes good with the chrome valve covers.
Hello I'm new to the board and was wondering if ya guys could give me some advice on a motor combination I was considering for my 88 5.0 Tbird. I would like to install a slightly modified 5.0 HO in place of the SO. I would like to run speed density for the ease of instillation and wirering but if you think that this combo won't work with speed density let me know. Any ways here's what I plan on doing. 5.0 HO short block and stock HO cam GT-40 iron heads Cobra intake manifold 65mm throttle body
I know I will need a mustang speed density computer and 19# injectors for this to work. I just want to make sure that what I have in mind would work with a speed density setup. Thanks for any information ya guys can provide.
Hello everyone I've just found this site and would like to share pictures of my 1988 Thunderbird LX. I hope that I will be able to answer questions and get help on this board. Well here's my Bird I hope ya all like it.
