General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Re: Never thought I'd see this.
i have to admit this is pretty bad but look at the bright side,, there is one out there for sale if anyone feels froggy.  finding these cars are getting harder and harder so to imagine he still has the original motor,, thats a great find.

id worry about the hack job on misc wiring.

as for the smog pump into the air box with duct tape,, i think it is being used to recycle the exhaust back thru the combustion cycle so emissions wont be so bad.  Its the same concept but just a different approach.  instead of routing the smog back to the intake, its going to the air cleaner.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Re: Question for Crystal
while we are on Questions for Crystal,,

could you please post your easy way of doing a heater core change once again,, i cant seem to find it on the old site but you did come up with a real clever way of getting at the old core.

could you please kind of include the tasking steps as well. :)

Unplug spout connector with car off.

this was said for a reason,, but in addition,, do not plulg it back in with the car running.

unplug the sprout conn with the car off
make any old mark you can at 10btdc on the Harmonic balancer
*if you cant see it, you might be able to turn the crank pully by hand till you can*
hook up the timing light
loosen the dizzy lock nut at the base(evidently it already is)
*if you cant get it running , turn the dizzy a little at a time till it starts*
start car
adjust dizzy till your mark fall right under the timing pointer which is located at or about the 11 o'clock position looking directly at the crank pully.
lock down the dizzy by tightening the base lock nut.
shut car off
hook sprout back up
remove timing light
start car
done

IF you still cant get it started...........
rotate the crank with a socket and breaker bar clockwise till the timing pointer is on zero. (crank could be turned by hand with a broke in motor)  Now rotate the crank ccw and you might find it to be rather easy to move till all of a sudden there is resistance.  You must stop turning instantly when you feel this resistance. When you stop you will find the timing pointer is pointing to a number on the harmonic.  This will indicate the number of degrees your timing is off due to a stretched timing chain.  If the slack is greater than,,,,,X degrees,,,,,
>>>>>insert standard allowance here cause it dont know<<<<<
your chain "might" have jumped a tooth but ive only seen that once.
My coug was off nearly 25 deg due to a stretched chain.

Lounge / my son made a wreck of my shop light
My oldest boy mason who is 12 has been messing around with melting aluminum in his homemade forge.  Yesterday he must have made an error in trying to warm up in the garage.

I have an duplex outlet mounted on the cieling right beside one of my overhead lights.
one plug in usually powers my cieling mounted heater.
one powers my self winding / retracting shop light cord.

there is a 3way adaptor on the end of my shop light cord and mason decided to plug up the heater to that.

today,,,im needing the shop light so i grab the cord but notice the heater is hooked up to it,,im like WTF!!!  I unplug it and plug it in to the receptical where it belongs.
I pull on the cord leading it to my cougar cause im doing my yearly tranny filter change.  Suddenly smoke pours out of the little round black thing a ma jig that winds up the cord.  I notice that the outter jacket on my cord is melted everywhere.

the guage wire in the shop light cord is the same guage as what the heater is so im like,, what when wrong here..... It then dawned on me..

anytime you run electricity in circles that many turns,, it will give off heat and magnetism.  I guess he suceeded in two things today....

he melted aluminium with a wood source
and
created a resistor or inductor

all i know is im lucky the garage did not catch on fire.

Electrical Tech / Re: window motor replacement 1986
who was it,, help me out here,,,,,,,,, :dunno:
someone really came up with a sweet idea on how to fix em with out buying anything.,,,, Wooden dowel inserts were installed (3 i think about 1/4'' long)

jasonwho maybe? jabobia maybe?

anyways,, i fixed one on my 84 by laying the center metal gear inside the outter plastic gear and bonding them with epoxy but that no longer kiddie arm proof (like id wanna test it)

its wear usually happens where these two gears meet.

Misc Tech / Re: O rings on fuel injectors
no you actually dont need the filters,, you actually need to get rid of them once and for all.  I dont know what the "cap" part is mentioned before but if it doesnt come with new screen filters,, your waisting you money on the kits.  Bying plain jane rubber orings of the highest quality will not run you more than 1 doallar at worst case.

You can extract your old screens,, clean em , reshape em and reinstall em.

mmm,, maybe the caps are the bottom of the injectors,, correct?? :dunno:

Engine Tech / Re: Low Compression on 1985 Cougar 5.0
the only "POPING" noise i can remember is the poping noise the smog pump makes when a hose has come off or one of its inline pipes have broken.

first place id check would be where the smog meets the exhaust and trace backwards from there.

Lounge / Re: Sleep problems (HELP)

Have you talked to a doctor? I'd be inclined to take the advice of a proffesional over some guys on a cougar/t-bird forum.

come on now,, you actually trust the doctors?  If you in to being their test case on the latest and greatest drug out on the market then go for it.  otherwise,,,
go natural.
A beer before bedtime works for me.

Camamile tea mixed with honney or ginger also works great.

A hot Toddy is great for sleep and colds(shot of wiskey mixed in a cup of warm lemon / honey tea.

lavender/sage tea

valarian root (yucky tasting)

warm bath followed by a glass of warm milk

meditation and relaxation techniques.

try to listen to your own heart beat by lying on your belly with one hand palm against your chest.  You will feel and hear it (two senstations which will give you mind something to do)

dont do anything in your bed other than sleep or you know what :) ,,your brain will start to associate your bed with sleep.  Under no cirspoogestance should you stay in bed while you are awake.  If you cant sleep,, get up right away and do something.
Dont read or work on the bed,, basically stay away from it except for its intended purpose.
all this was brought to you by my wonderful wife who knows the herbal and natrual ways of going about life.

Suspension/Steering / Re: Sealed for life suspention components
i agree with TC,, i should have used sealed for life,, i really abused my front end not on purpose but just by the fact of where i live and the miles i have.  One outter tie rod end was bad,, the other kind of floppy while the ball joints still could have stayed put.  oh well,, i just felt like replacing all of it so id did.

Engine Tech / Re: Been tinkering in my mind about the SC 3.8
i was checking out your cardomain site,, any new pics?  im hoping to get an 84 console some day.  I like the cougar center cap for your steering wheel,, i think i remember you having a hard time finding it.
