T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / '92 SHO Taurus For Sale
Hey guys,
There's a car for sale here where I live that I thought somebody might find interesting.  Just to repeat, it is not mine.  It is, to the best of my knowledge, a 1992 SHO Taurus (if not a '92, it's not more than a year up or down), with 155k on it, Forest Green, automatic, beige leather interior (seats slightly cracked), loaded, with no apparent problems, for $1000.  The body and paint are in good shape.  The front tires are bald (wonder how?).  The guy that gave me the little bit of information I got didn't own it either, but lives nearby and knows the owner.  He said he knew of no problems the car had and that it was driven to where it was sitting.  If anybody's interested, I can try to get some more info.  Oh, it's in Marshall, IL.  Let me know.

Suspension/Steering / Rear Swaybar
Hey all,
Can somebody tell me what I'm missing under my '84 LS Cougar V6 to attach a TC rear swaybar?  I thought something would jump out at me when I looked under the rear end, but nothing did.  Are there brackets my car didn't come with that I need?  Oh, my car has no factory rear swaybar.  Thanks for the info.

Engine Tech / TC electric fans on a 3.8 V6?
Hey guys,
I've read countless threads about the TC electric fans not being compatible with a 5.0, but I haven't found one yet about the fans working with a 3.8.  Does anybody know if there is pulley clearance on the 3.8 for the electric fans?  Thanks for the replies.

Engine Swapping / Basic Requirements for a 351W swap into a V6 Cougar
Hey guys,
Well, I just recently inquired about what I thought was a 400 from an '82 E250 van.  Turns out (duh), the motor is a 351W (1982 code G).  Of course it's carbed (2bbl/4bbl?), and the mileage is relatively low.  If he didn' want too much for it, is this a motor worth going after?  Is there anything about it coming from a van that would cause any concern?  I don't care about carb vs. EFI right now.  My 3.8 is going to need some $$ spent on it to fix a coolant leak (head gasket or freeze plug) anyway.  If the price was right, and it wasn't too difficult to drop in, what am I in for?  How about my AOD?  I'd want to keep it.  Accessory drives, brackets, cooling, suspension mods, exhaust...  Somebody please lay it on me.  I might could get this motor real cheap; this person has a 1951 customized Chevy Bel-Air he asked me to help him sell on Ebay, and he might look kindly on me if I sold it for him.  I don't even care if it's a "hot" motor or just a run-of-the-mill 351W, it's a 351W.  I can always build it later.  Thanks for the help.

Body/Appearance/Interior / '87/'88 Cougar front clip on '84?
Hey guys,
Aside from the moldings not matching or lining up, is there any reason that a '87/'88 Cougar front clip (fenders, header panel, and bumper cover like the red car at the top of this page) wouldn't fit on an '84 Cougar?  Can '87/'88 moldings be put on an '84 if the sheetmetal is the same?  Are the front fenders the same from the '83/'86 cars to the '87/'88 ones?  I'm actually toying with the idea to put an aero front end on my '84.  Aside from physical fit, what other issues would there be?  How about the headlight wiring from the dual sealed-beam setup to the single halogens?  Would the actual bumper under the cover have to be swapped as well, and does it fit on an '84?  Has anybody ever seen this done?  Again, this is just me being different and attempting to have a unique car someday when I can afford it.  Sorry for all the question marks.  Thanks.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / TC Hood For Sale (Great Condition)
Hello All,
Thanks for all the interest on my other "Parts for Sale" thread, but I thought it would be best to start a new one.  I'm gonna have to let go of one part that I thought I'd be able to keep, but I really need the money and it doesn't really go with a V6 car; it's my TC hood.  I've had it on the car briefly, and I can't even close it; the ductwork and "mouth" hit the breather tube.  Besides, if you don't have an intercooler and the hood would close, all you're doing if you're driving in the rain is funneling water down on top of the motor, which can't be good.  Anyway, besides all that, it's for sale.  All the parts are there and there are no dents or rust.  It is the dark red/maroon color, but there is some white overspray on it, so it will have to be repainted, which you'd probably have to do anyway.  Again, I live in Marshall, IL, zip 62441.  Please let me know if you're interested.  I can't ship it, so it will have to be picked up.  I could deliver within a reasonable distance, but I'd need gas money (sorry).  Let me know!

P.S. On another note, I also have an unused Superchip for an F150, code NLK2, for a 4.6 with a 5-speed.  Thought I'd see if any of you guys are also F150 owners.  Thanks.

Miscellaneous For Sale/Wanted / 1982 Ford E250 XL Club Wagon Van
Hello,
A friend of mine is trying to find a new home for his '82 E250 XL Club Wagon van, with I believe about 110k miles on it.  This is the extended body van.  This would make a great school or church van, or a good car hauling rig with lots of room for equipment.  It's got 3 bench seats behind the front captain's chairs, of course with windows all down the sides.  The seats look like they've never been sat in (any one of them).  It's got front and rear air.  I believe it's got a 400 in it w/ a C6, I'm sure.  It's got cruise, tilt, an aftermarket digital cassette deck, and an in-dash digital clock.  This van has little to no rust on it, 13 years old or not.  All the doors close solid (the side door is the sliding type, not the double barn doors).  It's a two-tone dark brown and beige.  The only thing it will need very soon is new rubber.  It's got 8-lug 16" rims, with 245/75R16 on front and 285/75R16 on back (not sure what the original size is supposed to be).  It's also got dual tanks and a trailer hitch.  If he doesn't get some interest soon, it's headed to the s yard, which will be a major shame.  As far as I know, the motor runs like a top, and to my knowledge it's been driven very little in the last couple years.  The title is clear.  It is in Marshall, IL.  $700 OBO.  Please let me know before this nice vehicle turns into 3 tons of s metal.  Thanks for your interest.

Electrical Tech / Stereo Replacement (non-Fox related, 1999 Explorer)
Hello,
I hope you'll forgive me for posting this non-T-bird/Cougar question on the board, but I thought somebody here might be able to help.  I've got a '99 Explorer with the factory Mach sound system with the amp, factory sub, etc., and with the factory 6-CD changer.  Well, after my 3-yr old daughter filled the cassette slot with pennies, the display seemed to go out.  I'm told this is a common problem, toddlers notwithstanding.  But every now and then it pops very loudly, the power will cut on and off by itself, and the volume will get erratic.  Anyway, I have a Pioneer CD deck laying around that I could put in, but my question is, if I want to use the factory wiring, is an aftermarket deck compatible with Ford's amp/sub system, and can I communicate with the factory CD changer?  I've priced the replacement factory Mach decks, and most people are still getting $150+ for them used, and many of them have dead displays, too.  Can somebody give me some advice?  Thanks.

Electrical Tech / Unused Wire Connection under the Passenger Seat, and other Stuff
Hey all,
I've decided to convert the manual passenger seat in my '84 LS to power.  I already had the power seat mount, then I picked up the console panel with the passenger side controls.  I already see that I'm going to have to make my own wiring from the control panel under the carpet to the passenger seat, which doesn't look like any big deal.  My first question is, though:  under my passenger seat, there are (2) 6 or 7 wire connectors not connected to anything.  They don't seem to be connections for a power seat, at least the plugs aren't the same design.  So what do they go to?  Again, my car came with a manual passenger seat.  This one has really got me puzzled.
Second question:  in my car, neither the power door locks or the original power driver's seat work.  Am I right in saying that these two accessories are fed by the same circuit breaker?  I really don't want to believe that both power locks have actually failed and that the motor on the power seat has just quit working.  It seems more likely to me that it's a fuse or CB.  Can somebody confirm?  Thanks for the assistance.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / Parts for Sale
Hey everyone,
I've got a few parts still hanging around and I thought I'd put them on here and see if anyone's interested.
(1) LH/RH red cloth front buckets from an '87 T-Bird Sport - very good shape, red slightly faded on upper outside edges, but no burns, holes, tears, rips, etc.; driver's side full power with power recline, and the passenger side manual with power recline
(2) rear seat cushion from same car, very good shape; don't have seat back
(3) various red panels from same car - kick panels, upper door trim panels, and door sill plates
(4) LH/RH front fenders from an '86 Cougar XR7 - very good shape, only surface scratches, dark red (maroon) over argent gray, trim has been removed, no cutouts for corner lights
(5) full set of 14" steel rims with locking wire wheel covers (key included) with Cougar center emblems from an '84 LS - 2 of the wheel covers are slightly dented, 2 are like new, 2 of the whitewall tires are like new, 2 are about 50% (Cooper Trendsetters, 205/70R14)

Except for maybe the kick panels, I'd rather not ship any of these parts.  They're pretty bulky, and I live in a small town nowhere near a UPS or FedEx office.  I live in Marshall, IL; 15 miles west of Terre Haute, IN, or 90 miles west of Indianapolis, 3 hours south of Chicago, or 2.5 hours east of St. Louis.  As an added bonus, I've got the front bumper cover off of the '87 T-Bird Sport (black) that I'll give to whoever wants it.  It's got a split in it on the driver's corner, but I think it could be patched from behind and you'd never see it from outside.  Aside from that it's in pretty good shape.  Let me know if there's any of these things you'd be interested in.  Thanks for checking them out.

Hey, there's a few parts I'd be interested in trading.  I'm looking for an auto AOD floor shifter, the auto AOD floor shifter console plate with cutout, a passenger door for my '84 LS with power lock and window, a trunklid for the LS, tan carpet, or a brown dashpad for the '84 LS.  I'd definitely be open for trades.  Thanks again.    Fordman3

Engine Swapping / What about the original Cougar V8?
Hey all,
I noticed after reading lots of posts about engine swapping that nobody has ever mentioned dropping the original Cougar V8 in a Fox car, the 289.  I've always thought that would be a cool setup!  A K-code Fox Cougar, anybody?!  A 289 sits in exactly the same space as a 302, doesn't it?  I know the 289 is a "little" harder to find than a 302 of any flavor, and most are sitting in '65/'66 Mustangs and '67 Cougars (and some other '60's Fords).  It's just a combination that I've never seen.  If I ever got my hands on one, I'd sure put it in my '84 LS.  If we really want to get wild, what about a Boss 302 Fox car!?  What's everybody think?  Let me know!

Drivetrain Tech / T5 in an '84 LS V6
Hey all,
I have an opportunity to obtain all the 5-speed T5 goodies from an '88 Turbo Coupe (tranny, shifter, hydraulic clutch, pedal assembly, etc.) at a reasonable price, assuming the tranny is alright.  My question is, how hard would it be to connect a T5 to my V6 (yeah, for now I need to keep the 6, even though an 8 would be nice).  Most of the info I've read relates T5's to V8's or I4's, but not necessarily to the V6.  I've read that the I4 hydraulic clutch can't be used with the 5.0, but can it be used with the V6?  What other parts would be involved?  Flywheel, bell housing, tranny crossmember, exhaust hardware, etc.?  Does my ECU care if I've got a manual or an auto?  I just thought I'd make myself a unique '84 LS and make it a little more fun to drive.  If I don't do this, I at least want to make it a floor-shift auto car instead of a column.  Which will be easier?  Thanks.

Electrical Tech / '84 Instrument Cluster Questions
Hello all,
I've got an '84 LS V6 with the infamous '83/'84 "no info" gauge cluster with basically a speedometer, a fuel gauge, and a couple dummy lights.  I've actually got 2 questions:  one, would a gauge cluster from an '83 Turbo Coupe (w/ a tach) be a hard swap, seeing as how I'd have to alter the tach from an I4 to the V6, and two, has anybody ever swapped in an entire dash assembly from an '85 to '88 Cougar/T-bird into an '83/'84?  If anybody has any experience with either of these approaches, please help me out.  Thanks a bunch!
