General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Got rats...
I had one sneaking through the fuel pump cover in the rear trunk area. A rubber grommet had dry rotted away.

I also had some living in my drain tray, killed 6 in two nights, one died in there which I found later...yuck.

They will literally live anywhere, and it’s never one, you need to kill at a minimum two as they work in pairs.

Suspension/Steering / has anyone installed an EPS system in a TC?
The problem I see is that a lot of that nice feel is related to feeding a speed signal back to the BCM so it can determine the amount of assist it will provide. Ie the Fiesta, which I have a lot of wheel time in, the bcm actually shuts the epas off above ~45mph and it behaves as a manual rack.

Rack assisted EPS is far superior to a column assist in my opinion, the column assist has a garbage feel and only the lowest B segment and A segment cars are using them in my experience.

This would absolutely require a 3G alternator, and the starter might interfere with the E motor as there is over hang on the back opposite the input. Another factor is because of the rack weight a lot
Of these electric power racks use 3 or 4 mounting locations over the “normal” two bolts.

Dude, I live in Canada. I know all about restrictive gun laws

But you can buy SVT40’s for a pittance.

41 is an odd one, your most likely going to have to rebarrel it into something more common. Sorta neat it’s a needle fire though, that is some old technology. You’ll have to figure out what the bolt face will accept without heavily modifying it.

Drivetrain Tech / Highway speed vibration, worse on deceleration
Quote from: Aerocoupe;463319
I saw your reply in the email on my phone and was confused but when I logged in I saw my mistake. What I wrote was supposed to be a question not a statement (? not a .) so thanks for the clarification on that and I do agree with what you are saying.

I will say that the only things that affect the critical speed of a driveshaft are length, material(s) it is made of, and diameter.  To fix a critical speed issue with the DS the only way is to alter one or more of those three things.

I also found another pretty good read here:

In industry, we use a torsional damper that you place part way down the length of the shaft. It basically shifts the resonance out of the speed range at the cost of added rotating mass. You couldn’t do that in a garage obviously without a lucky guess or trial and error.

Years ago we explored whether material really matters (as much as people believe) as stiffness is easier to alter. A steel shaft at 3.5” and the wall thickness of the AL will have quite the resonant frequency for instance.

Electrical Tech / relay on shock tower?
edit: Not sure. I initially thought this was. TC, in those it’s the PRCM among other things in that area.

Drivetrain Tech / Highway speed vibration, worse on deceleration

If the vibration is due to a tire or wheel issue.

No, if you change the total rotating inertia of the rotating system that he resonant frequency will shift accordingly.

I am not saying imbalance, I am saying the system. You treat it like a series of rotating masses on a shaft, and the system resonances respond accordingly to the excitation all other things being equal.

It's not that hard to fix em, there isn't a lot going on electrically. I've had a lot of boat anchor gear over the years, current living room setup is a luxmen receiver and Ohm Walsh speakers. My garage setup is a big sansui G with some Yamaha ns670's, the stuff last forever.

If you need help shoot me a message, AK is a good forum though.

User Rides / 88 TC aka Bad Decisions
Did some work today, removed the spot welds and pulled the sway bar bracket. Going to bend up a U channel sometime this weekend and see how it fits in there.

Drivetrain Tech / Non-start question
Neutral safety switch?  I think that's the only starter inhibit, the other lockouts will let it crank if I remember correctly.

Congrats Chuck! I expect your newest product maybe four-eye specific car seat anchor points.
