Misc Tech / Sport Seat Bolt Size
Hi Everyone. Some of the old timers will remember me, I was a very active member from 2005 - 2011. Been a while since I have a tbird, but hoping maybe that'll change again in the near future.

Does anyone know the thread size for the sport seats in the Turbo Coupes? I'm looking to mount one, and I can't find the bolts, but I also can't bring the entire seat into a hardware store to match it up.

Thanks!

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / Random Assortment of Thunderbird/Cougar Parts
Hey Guys. I've been cleaning out my garage(preparing to sell my Cutlass) and I came across a couple of boxes of parts from my time with Thunderbirds. I took pictures.  Make offers on anything that isn't priced.

$45+ shipping for the blue seat belt buckles
$20+ shipping for the gray seat belt hooks
$45 + shipping for the quad shocks, with brackets and bolts
$50 for the trunk lid
$25 for the distributor
$25 each for the front plate frames. One' a turbo coupe one, ones a standard bumper one. You'd have to tell me which one is which now, it's been a long time.
$20 for the working emissions components in the first picture. I can't remember the acronym for them.

I realize a lot of the stuff in the photo's isn't worth much, if anything. But i thought someone might want them, before the non valuable pieces get thrown out.

Lounge / Photo Shop guru?
There's a member on here who does really nice Photoshop work. I rmemeber a thread from a while back where a member with an 84-86, nice black cougar, wanted a tree taken out of the side of the picture, and the guy was able to do it and recreate the brick wall of the building?

This ringing any bells? I have a picture of a car drifting, and I just want to change the color of it so it looks more like mine.

Want to make:

The color of this:

I just want to hang it on my garage wall next to the other dealer promo photos of my other cars. I have the full size pictures available, if anyone can do this. It'd ask around on my Genesis forum, but they're all s over there, arguing about this or that, and ricer this and ricer that. It's exhausting. I log in once a week to check messages and check vender prices. Shame reall.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / Thunderbird Turbo Coupe Seat
I need a drivers, or a passener side Turbo coupe seat. Looking for blue, blue/grey insert, or black/grey leather. Doesn't have to be perfect, just presentable.

I have a lot of left over parts from my car, I'd be willing to trade.

Let me know what you have. I don't really want to pay for shipping, so if something is close to massachusetts, thats better,

Lounge / Any CNC machinsts on FTBCF's?
I've got an upcoming project at school where we are using mills to machine parts. It'd like to make something either one of my cars. My Coupe, or my Oldsmobile I'm restoring. I obviously don't have my thunderbird anymore, but thought you guys might have some ideas.

We're using Solidworks/Camworks to do this. It outputs simple G-code when done. Looking for some simple ideas/suggestions on what to make.

Oldsmobile:
A custom valve cover(although typically stamped, I could probably make the top portion, and the sides and tig weld together.
A W-27 Rear end cover(would be an expensive block of aluminum)
A Gooseneck for the Thermostat with a tapped hole for a temp sender
A set of those grates on the hood.

My Thoughts(Genesis Coupe):
A shift  with the wings emblem
Locking Lug Nuts. making a key too(would be cool, if I could make it work)
Wheel Cap Covers
A 19" Hyundai Wheel. (But it would be entirely Aluminum and probably would not be balanced/strong enough for DD use).

Anyone have any experience with making similar parts in Solidworks? Suggestions?

Lounge / I got banned from my Genesis Coupe Forum for a Week
I'm a little frustrated, came here to vent.

Been a member of gencoupe.com since Feb/march of last year. Make a long story short, I bought some parts from a guy, received them completely damaged, he filed a complaint through Fedex, with an amount 1/2 of my purchase price. Takes him a month to send me the refund through Fedex and then refuses to take the parts back. After countless email with the member, I started a thread about "Do not buy from username". He must be an admit or one of his friends is an admin so they deleted the thread and blocked me for a week. Unbelievable. The site is just full of people ripping others off, and venders charging exorbitant prices for tunes/other parts.

All in all, everything about my new Genesis Coupe is not quite what it's cracked up to be. Makes me miss Foxtbirdcougarforums.com, and my thunderbird.

//end rant. Sorry for the useless post. But in all the transactions I did here with members or through members ebay sites, I never had a problem, well except for having to anxiously wait for parts. I may very well be back in a Thunderbird as a DD, if I can find one.

On a side note, I've already had a tailight, the ECU, a TPS, and my M/T shifter linkage and fluid all changed under warranty. Warranty is a good thing.

Lounge / So I'm Watching Top Gear USA Seaon 2
So I'm sitting watching Top Gear Season 2 Episode 2. The guys found their first cars and are testing them out. One VW Rabbit Truck, a Dodge Allient, and a Honda CDX(I think).

I started watching it and now got a little sad. A few months back I traded in my first car, and even though it was a pile of junk, I miss it.

The Car has a lot of problems,
The 5.0 motor had a rust hole in the oil pan
The intake needed to be taken off and I needed a splash plate, as oil was getting sucked up through the PCV valve.
The Body was a little rough.
The engine was running hot for some apparent reason
It leaked every fluid there is.
Car needed a water pump(leaking).
The EGR system wasn't working, and I couldn't figure out why.
The car had a random acceleration problem on random hot days, it would lurch forward.
A bunch of other stuff I don't remember at the moment.

But all in all, I think everyones first car who buys it themselves is a pile of . But I put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into the car.

Now I have a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track Pack, and while it does get 30mpg and have 316hp and I paid for it myself, it lacks in the department of being able to work on. I could do anything to the old Thunderbird, the Genesis Coupe, not so much.

Lounge / Opinions of Forum "Etiquette"
I'm going to lay down a scenario I witnessed here from another forum. I want to know what you guys think (Not from this forum).

Person A creates a thread about a product he is looking to buy. A week later person a "bumps" his own thread to get it back up to the top.

Person "B" chimes in saying he has the said item and offers to sell it for a ridiculously low price.

Person "C" chimes in on person "A"'s thread saying he wants them.

Person "A" replies on his own thread he wants them and gets wait listed by person "B"(seller).

Is this right? I mean it seems like person C hijacked person A's thread. They are both willing to pay the asking price, what do you guys think. You guys buy and sell a lot, what would you guys do? Who do you think should have first dibs and why. Should person "A" send a pm to person "B" politely expressing his concerns, or would that burn the bridge?

Lounge / It's the end of an Era, the Dawning of a New Decade.
As many of you know I've had a lot of problems with the Thunderbird lately. I bought the car when I was 15 and for 5 years have worked tooth and nail on the car just to make it down the street one more day. On the flipside, because of this, I've saved a ton of money and now can buy something new and reliable.

I've made a decision, and I'm going to pick the new car up today. I stripped everything re-usable(except the deck lid spoiler) off the car last night. I took a serious look at it a week ago, the frame rails on the passenger side are bad. The inside was replaced by a family friend, but now the outside(closest) to the strut is on borrowed time. The passenger floor boards are going, and I "replaced" the best a backyard mechanic can, the driver side ones last spring. The car needs a complete new suspension, an oil pan, possibly a rebuilt(getting blowby at hard acceleration), it's just too much.

I bought the car off my grandmother before she passed in early 2006. I beat the bag out of the car in highschool for 3 years, put an 87 t-bird 5.0 in it, and beat on it some more for another year. I got picked on for the "old shiznit-box quite a bit, until my junior year one of the yuppie kids with his dad's infinity shot his mouth off, and wanted a burnout competition. I wound that little v6 up so high I thought it was going to blow; the whole car was shaking and rattling and begging me to stop, but I just kept tapping the brakes with my right foot to the floor. It's wasn't spectacular, but it left some rubber(from both wheels) and was marvelous in comparison to the infinities little tire chirp. From the on, "the kids car, had balls"./end digress
Then I used it everyday for a daily driver for about a year, babying it. She's been good to me, all in all, I can't complain. For a 24/25 year old car that was only a daily driver to begin with, it's been good. I've driven it through the ringer and back, and it's taken it, but it's tired.

I'll still be on the forum, selling parts, keeping up with the latest news; you guys are sort of like a family to me. Many of you have helped me out at all times of the night, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Without you guys, It'd still be fumbling around in the darkness trying to make heads or tails out of anything. I've learned a lot from you guys. THANK YOU ALL, THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH.

I've put the shiznittiest tires on the car I could find, and about a mile from the dealer there is a nice little section of the road where there is never anyone else, and this old girl is going to be all warmed up and have one last "reckless" hoorah. I've never just gone hog wild on it, I'm not expecting much out of it, but I gotta know.

I know I'll find a really nice rust free 87-88 Turbo Coupe or an 88 v8 sport somewhere down the line.

I'll post pictures of the new car later, if I can wipe the tears from my eyes long enough.

Lounge / Well I almost pulled the trigger on a new car
Hey Guys. I haven't been on a ton in the past week or so, because I've been out looking at new cars. I might have mentioned some of the cars in other threads, but I've looked at 2 Camaro SS's one 2010 one 2011, a new Mustang 5.0, a 2008 Audi A4 Titanium package, a 2008 Infinity G35s coupe, a 2010 nissan 370z, a 1987 T-Bird v6 with 60k miles, a 2006 Monte Carlo SS, and a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Track Pack 3.8.

Believe it or not, the Hyundai was very nice. Loaded, 6 speed, leather, navigation, bluetooth, brembo brakes, heated seats, infinity sound system, everything for just over $28,000 OTD.

I put a deposit on the car, and when I went back to fill out the paperwork, all of a sudden the warranty had changed. I was promised as a Hyundai certified used car I would have the remainder of the 5 year, 60k mile bumper to bumper warranty, and a 10year,100k mile warranty. And for the agreed price they were going to bump that up to 10 year 100k mile umper to bumper, until it came time to sign the deal, then the reneged. After haggling with them about it, they told me it would be an additional $1,100. I walked out the door and will never set foot in the place again.

I wanted to vent, and thank you for listening, or reading this. I was all excited, I was finally going to have a reliable car with no worries, something sports, technologically advanced, quick, and economical. Oh well, it's either a sign to buy what I've wanted for 3 years, a New Camaro, or a sign I should keep the bird; but the bird needs a complete rehash; it leaks every fluid it contains.

//End rant.

Lounge / Everday Driver
Looking for ideas on what I should get to replace the bird for an everyday car. I've been saving everything I can for a while, and for almost 2 years, I've had my heart set on a new camaro, but being in new england and with winters and such, I'm starting to re-think it. What do you all drive as an everyday car, do you like it, recommend it, etc.

A friend of mine just bought a 2001 Audi with 116k on the clock. That's more miles than my bird, and for $5000, I wonder if that's a good move. I always tend to shy away from the european cars. I want something that resembles sporty, something similiar to the A4 I guess, but something thats comfortable and going to be relaible.

Every car with a v6 I see, I think "nope, it's going to need a headgasket". Are newer 4cyl and 6cyl motors better? Am I sorta living in the past here?

Thoughts, suggestions?

Body/Appearance/Interior / Heads up Display
Anyone have anything like this? I test drove a new camaro a couple weeks ago and it had one, and I liked it. It seems like a pretty cool way to get the "Star Wars" digital tachometer appearance, in a whole new way. I know this one is made in Taiwan, just wondering if anyone had one, etc.

Electrical Tech / Where to tap into for a Temperature and Voltage Gauge.
I need a place to tap into for power to some aftermarket temperature and voltage gauges. There is an "extra" slot in my fuse panel, but after testing, I found it it's live all the time, not just when the key is on. So that is obviously out.

Where would you guys tie into? I don't want to just run it direct, just in case something happens, and I wasn't sure what other fuse-able circuit I should tie into.

Thoughts, suggestions?

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Websites for Ordering "Obsolete Ford Parts"
There were a couple of websites people had found that you could search parts, etc for old parts. There are threads containing the links, but I just searched for an hour and came up without one.

I know about greensales, but there was one that was an actual dealer site somewhere, and there was one somewhere else too.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?
