92 Mustang Crate Engine is a 94?

Just got delivery on a reman "92 Mustang GT" V8 HO

I go to put the Cougar water pump (E5ZE-8505-AA /ASC Industries WP-645) on & it doesn't fit, holes don't line up.

Got one that matches from the parts store (RF-F87E-6059-AA /ASC Industries WP-9033)& if I cross check it for what vehicles its for it only lists 94-95 Mustang

:wtf: The AC/Power steering black support bracket doesn't fit with this H2O pump.

Going to wander the bone yard tomorrow to see what I can figure out, but anyone have advice for this? Replace the timing cover to the old style? Use 94/95 Mustang AC/Steering brackets?

First I'd talk to the people you got the motor from and see what they say.  If they claimed it to fit a 92, it should have the appropriate timing cover. They should be the ones responsible to supply you the right one.  The best route would probably be to get a timing cover for the earlier style.  From there your original water pump and everything should bolt on correctly I believe.

Whats this hole in the timing cover???

Yup, the engine company sent out a new timing cover.  Now the right water pump works, but:::

There is this strange opening on the drivers side that you can look into & actually see the timing chain.  So I guess I'll have to get yet another different cover.

But what would this be used for?  An external oil pump?  :dunno:

Here's a pic:

It's for a mechanical fuel pump, you can get a block-off plate for it.

Uhhhh....  My 85 has a place for the fuel pump that looks a lot like that and there's not a plate over it, What's the deal?

Well i'm not sure if it is necessary to cover it, but leaving it open like that just doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

After the period of mechanical fuel pumps, they starter covering the hole from the inside, but they left the casting there. That's probably what yours is, amooset.  Bondo's is NOT covered from the inside in that it's probably aftermarket/universal application.  Bondo needs a cover and a gasket.  It does need to be coveved.  Oil will come out if it isn't coeverd.

PS - Excues the incoherence of my post, I've had a few drinks.

One more timing cover mystery

Great help, all..

I made a homemade cover and did find a gasket for that hole in the Felpro kit.  SO thats done.  :)

Now there is one more unknown thing on that timing cover: a couple loops of metal where the timing pointer goes.. The 5.0's I saw just have a bracket.  What are the two metal loops for?  :dunno:  See pic ( I'm holding the timing pointer bracket with a blue glove to where it should go.  The loops don't seem to be in the way, but it'd be nice to know what they are there for) :

I believe that's for a Crank sensor on old '83 CFI cars.  Somethin' around that era.  I took apart an '83 Crown vic motor and found a sensor attached to it.  You shouldn't need to use it.
