Anything past a 24# injector and you will need a custom chip burned especially with boost

I like your current set up from the pics

Really? What's the point of recalibrating the maf if the ecu would need to be tuned anyway? I thought these things were plug and play.

On a Cobra engine, the ACT sensor hole should already be in the lower intake on the #5 runner.

The computer still dose not recognize the larger injectors even know you have the right maf

I had to get a tune with a chip on my mustang running 30# n/a at full throttle it would lean out even with 55 psi of fuel pressure

I tune is worth it any way

A tune is definitely called for, because stock air fuel ratios and timing ate not ideal for forced induction, but I thought it would at least hold the AFR's within stock parameters. Did you have an adequate fuel pump?

That's what I have too. I think I'm going to order a Megasquirt ECM. They have a direct replacement that can easily DIY tuned.

I would go with a costom chip ..... That way you also get a dyno sheet lol

I have a MAF off a 2001 Mustang GT and 42 lb/hr injectors on my 331 but they were also on my 306.  The guy that tunes my car prefers the OEM MAF's over the aftermarket units as the transfer functions on the OEM units are more accurate. I cannot argue with the guy as the car runs like a champ.

The 2001 MAF is an 80mm and the one off the 99-04 Lightnings are 90mm if you need a larger one.  You can find the Lightning units for sale on EBay all the time and http://www.car-part.com has the Mustang MAF's for dirt cheap but you can find them on EBay as well.  Both of these MAF's use a six pin connector but the outer two pins are not used on a Fox car.  I just looked up the wiring diagrams on both cars and figured out how to wire it up.  This site has the pig tails and a four to six adapter as well as the wiring harness to convert to mass air:

Just thought I would through this out there for thought.

Is the 01 mustang MAF the same as using a 24lb. MAF as far as output voltages?

Had a little time to work on the car:D Got the engine and transmission pulled. Now time to clean the engine bay. Here's a few shots of the progress.

My home made turbo header being pulled

Removing the transmission

pulling the motor

I have to get the fuel line tool today so I can disconnect the fuel rails and then some cleaning of the bay.

The 2001 GT MAF is not calibrated for any size injector (the 2001 GT has 20 lb/hr injectors as an FYI) and to my knowledge Ford does not calibrate MAF's to an injector size as this is in the EEC logic.  A tuner will drop in the transfer function for the MAF (basically tells the EEC how much air is coming into the motor at a given rate by the resistance of the MAF sensor wires) and then the tuner will modify the injector tables to account for the larger injectors.  That is a very rudimentary explanation but it gets the idea across.

Now I had a Bullet MAF calibrated for 24 lb/hr injectors.  When a MAF is calibrated for a certain size injector it is just a poor way to trick the EEC into adjusting for the larger injectors.  I had run out of room hp wise for the 24 lb/hr injectors and after some talks with my tuner I got the 2001 GT MAF due to it being 80mm (I was planning on a stroker in the future) and he had the transfer function for it so it was easy to make it work with the 42 lb/hr injectors.  Now don't get me wrong, a calibrated MAF works for the majority of people but when it gets down to it and if you are going to tune the car they are junk compared to an OEM MAF and someone who actually knows how to tune a car.

Ok, thanks for the info. I'm probably gonna start with one calibrated for my injectors.

Darren, I totally get what you're saying. I know I will have the ability to calibrate for the injectors via the EEC. I just thought it might be nice for the start-up if I could fire it up and have it run decent on the base tune. This will be my first time doing my own tuning, so I was trying to keep things as simple as possible. I do already have a wide-band in the car that I used to dial in my AFRs on my old setup with my adjustable FMU. What kind of power were you making when you maxed out the 24lb injectors?
