5.0 Manual Transmission swap

Has anyone sucessfully swapped in an operational T-5 behind a 5.0 litre. I'm wondering how the clutch mechanism is operated, cable style: i.e. Mustang/Capri or a hybrid bell housing to employ the hydraulic style used in a T-Bird Turbo Coupe. Any info on parts or kits available would be useful and appreciated.  Thanks

88turbo and I were looking at a link to a place that sold a retro-fit hydraulic clutch set-up for Fox and SN95 Mustangs...that will also work on our beloved Fob Cat/Birds...only thing is, I've lost said link.

If you offer him cookies and beer, I'm sure 88turbo will dig it out for ya lol

Check out this link if you haven't already. Better yet, read the whole site, lots of good info. I plan on doing the swap on my car...eventually. The easiest (and cheapest) way would to go to a junkyard and find a Mustang and start pulling parts.

I used all Mustang parts. Cable, bell housing, tranny, etc. 100% bolt in job. Took 4 hours from start to finish. Now, if you don't have a floor shifted car, you'll obviously have to cut a hole in the floor. The pedal assembly was the hardest part, but it only took about an hour and a half or so. I removed the driver seat and column and that made the job a lot easier. I did the pedal assembly one week, then the tranny installation the next. You retain the stock driveshaft, tranny mount, cross member. It's an upgrade that was worth it, although I have to admit, I do get tired of the constant shifting in local driving. I miss the auto a little from time to time, but not enough I'd ever swap back.

Thanks for the response vinnietbird. Did you use a Mustang clutch pedal? I still have '87 T-bird turbo coupe for parts, do you know if the T-Bird clutch pedal has provisions for the use of a cable?  Your engine mods sound sweet, Mustang killer right!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. The 87-88 TC's were hydro clutch

I got my pedal assembly from a 4 banger Stang. It's a direct swap. I also have an adjustable clutch pedal. Once I get a Mustang booster on my car I'll add a firewall adjuster. With the stock booster, it won't fit, so, I adjust it at the fork.
