Coyote

Anyone on here attempted a coyote swap in one of our cars

It is pretty much the same as a mustang. The 85.5 up cars have unique motor mounts, but most people swap to a aftermarket 4.6 k member anyways

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

If you're gonna swap K members, may as well just swap in from a '96-'98 Mustang. Assuming the Coyote uses the 2v and 4v 4.6 mount bosses....

Picked up a 14 5.0 for dirt cheap and honestly debating attempting the swap.

It would be bad ass.  Maximum Motorsports has a Fox Mustang k-member designed for the Coyote swap and you would just need to shim the upper mounts on the k-member where it bolts to the subframe.  I believe its been anywhere from 3/8" to 1/2" of shims.  MM may even have the shims if you tell them it is for a Thunderbird/Cougar.  Other things at this point would be to consider going coil over or if you are gong to stay with the traditional McPherson strut setup as they will need to know that.  Any shifter issues would probably the same as the Fox swap guys and this would also go for the exhaust and transmission cross member.  Are you currently running a stick or auto?  The engine controls package Ford sells for the Coyote motor is for a standard trans only so you would have to rig up some kind of TV cable solution for an AOD or swap to an electronically shifted auto and get a controller for that as well.

Currently a bone stock 87 cougar ls. Trying to find a 6 speed for a decent price now. I had honestly never even thought about switching to coil over, going to have to look into that. Also have an 07 mustang rear end for the car that I need to get the mounts relocated on. It's a bit wider, so will allow for wider wheels and tires in the rear

DO NOT use the '07 Mustang rear-end unless you want to do major surgery to both the rear AND your car. For one, it is considerably wider than the '99-'04 rears (which are 3" wider than FOX rears), Second, the springs sit atop the axle tubes instead of on the LCAs (unless you plan to modify the dogsnot out of the LCA brackets), they are a 3-link/Panhard bar rear and your floor and framerails will need to be modded/brackets made to make it work.

Any '96-'04 Mustang K-member can be used to drop the Coyote down in, provided the rearward 4 holes of the K-member are modded properly. Also, you will need to drill/tap the bosses on the side of the Coyote block for a mechanical power steering pump.

I would strongly suggest going with a tubular k-member for the sway as it alleviates a lot of hard to reach places and gives a lot more room for accessories, exhaust, and steering.  I am not saying you cannot do the swap with a stock 96-04 k-member but it can get tight.

Sell or trade the '07 rear for all of the reasons 88Boostedbird mentioned above.  You want a '94-98 SN95 rear as they are the same width as the Fox Bird and Cougar rear ends and it will need to come out of a V8 car to get an 8.8.  If you can find a Fox 8.8 on the cheap then you can use that rear as well but it will be about 3/4" shorter per side than your stock rear end.  You can convert the Fox 8.8 to the SN95 width by simply finding a 94-98 V6 SN95 Mustang and pulling the axles out of it and all of the braking components which include everything that bolts up to the axle tube .  The 8.8 housings between the 94-98 SN95 Mustang and the Fox Mustang are exactly same.  They lengthened the axles 3/4" per side to clear the exciter rings for the ABS so basically they used the TC rear end dimensions just like they simply bolted up a TC rear under the '93 Cobra.

As far as the transmissions got just research what the Fox Mustang guys are having to do to wrangle a six-speed manual or auto into their cars and that is pretty much what you will have to deal with on our cars.  I know of a Bird with a 351W stroker in it with a T-56 Magnum six-speed and the cross member for a Fox Mustang swap did work.  What I cannot remember is if the guy moved the factory mounts for the cross member.

Widening out the rear track is the whole reason for getting that rear. Plan on changing the car to a panhard bar setup. Still trying to figure out what I can use to widen out the front track as well. Looking for more stability for autocross.

I know I have to retrofit power steering onto the coyote and switch out to hydra boost brakes as well. Right now still researching and gathering parts. Hopefully I can get started this winter or next spring on this project.

The 99-04 width is about 3/4" per side wider, it would basically bolt in. Might need to flare the fenders, but it sounds like ya arent afraid to do that kinda stuff.

The mark7 rears were also wider, but im not sure if the arms were any different up front or if it was all in the k-member. You could always just make your own tubilar front arms and widen it to what ever you would like.

So far what I've found is MM makes all the components to put a 3 link panhard setup in the rear. I thought I read somewhere about using sn95 lowers up front would push out the front, but don't know how far

I beleive that the 94-04 fronts aee pretty much the same, spindle changed slightly in 96 up setups, but the arms are pretty much the same.

The 94-98 stang stuff is the same width as 87-88 cars. I beleive only the rear is wider on the 99-04's but i could be wrong.

The lower a-arms on a on 87-88 car are the same as the 94-04 SN95 Mustangs. You need to look at the distance between the lower a-arm bolt holes on your stock k-member and the SN95 Mustang. If the SN95 is wider then using a k-member for a Mustang of that year would effectively push the wheel out as long as you can compensate for the camber effect. I am pretty sure a SN95 k-member will work in our cars but I do not know that for sure. Mine has a Fox Mustang based Griggs k-member in it.

Well I can say that 2004 Mustang Cobra front control arms fit the stock 87-88 K-member just like the stock 87-88 arms. I have a set of since discontinued FRPP 03-04 Cobra front control arms on my Thunderbird.

The '86-88 k member is same as an '04-08 Stang, save for the engine mount bosses.
