after much deliberation and reading... my long rod/stock stroke combo, alum heads, and XE block from australia have been thrown out the door  So I might ened up with something a little cheaper but should still perform as well with all cast stuff...

you mean 6" rods (aussie) 3.50 stroke, cast ford pistons. I will be the first to say that I was talked into SRP pistons because they are way nicer than stock stuff. I was going to do a "cheap" overhaul" but got told that is what I would get in return. If you spend money on your short block you will have something better to work with. My stock compression was 10:76:1 with closed chamber heads. But now I will have 10:00:1 compression with SRP flat tops. I will have to have it balanced because the SRP's are lighter, thus greater throttle response and i can put the juice to it if i want. So dont go cheap on the bottom end. OK! I have DOAE closed chamber heads and they are not the best for low end power, but I'm going to get a custom ground cam (roller) to try to get some low end power. Parts are going to be here soon so then i will post pics. Until then foxtbirdcougars RULE!!!!!!

yeah, I was going to use the longer rods but all the aftermarket ones are made for a chevy pin.  Then leads to custom made pistons and such.  $850 bucks for a freaking set of pistons is a joke.  As far as the heads, I have the closed chamber 4v heads as well.  I tried tracking a set of the pistons that take the 6" rod from australia and they were $700 AUS(550 usd) then lets not forget the shipping and taxes...  so after you get them here, they are as much as the custom pistons and will take just as long... my assembly will be lightened and balanced as well.  But there is 2 things that you should take into consideration.  1, to make best use of the closed chamber heads.  You might want to check the deck clearance with the pistons.  The speed pro stock replacement forged flat tops have a .029.  With a typical head gasket thickness of .041 you end up with too much area for the quench and makes it more pr0ne to knock.  Get the block milled to 0.  2, check into the things that somender singh has done.  Basically he takes a triangle file and makes a groove in the quench area across from the plug making the flame front spread faster to the quench.  Thus giving a better, all over burn.  There have been several people praise of doing this by getting increase in mileage and performance... I certainally will be doing this with my cleveland.

My avitar is a pic of 351C just put in a 86 Lincoln Mark VII LSC.  All motor and tranny mounts fit right up without any modifications from the original 5.0.  Now I have to figure out headers and oil pan.
