Tonight I found the...

...top speed limiter on the Mark VII speed density computer I am running.  I passed some kids in a Dodge Dakota at about 45-50 mph and they decided to try and run me.  So as a result I punched it (we were on a long flat stretch with no cars around) and was a little surprised to hit the limiter pretty quickly.  By that point the Dakota boys were a distant speck in my mirror (5.0 HO FTW).  What are the Mark VII's limited to?  I can't tell since my digital dash maxes out at 85 mph:mullet:!

I also noticed that my little vibration problem starts around 70 but seems to smooth out somewhat around what I would guess to be 100 mph or so.

That computer tops out at 110 mph. I know because you have my old SD computer in your car;)

With the A9P I'm running now I've gotten past 110 easy.

I was hoping you would chime in.  For some reason I figured you had tested the limiter out as well.  ;)

I am thinking there will be a MAF conversion in my future.

Interesting.  My birds have/had the same problem, 95-110.  Maybe gone with the new suspension.  Always suspected some funky harmonics - guess it has something to do with the 7.5 axle?

I thought it was wierd too.  Ever since the car has had the vibration, I always get out of it when it starts vibrating.  This time I just kept my foot on the floor and was a little surprised when it smoothed out somewhat.

i have been at the heart of this debate on here ever since i joined this site. my car, with the stock computer, would run over  110, WELL over 110......

BUT i'm out of this, someone threatened to ban me the last time this was brought up.

He's running a Lincoln ECU.  The Mustang ECU for Speed Density had no vehicle speed limiter save for the laws of physics.  I remember your 2 threads.  You were claiming a stock cammed SO car (replete with a factory rated 155 HP motor and an 88 IIRC which the 88 T_bird DID have a speed limiter in stock trim) was capable of running in excess of 140 MPH.....while exceeding the ECU's REV LIMITER -- which they ALL have BTW.

2 totally different scenarios....

No way in hell a stock 5.0 SO T-bird/Cougar would run 140+.  The max I ever had mine up to was close to 120, but that was all she had in her.

88foxbird, here is another Violator ler clip:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwfpiQozOlI

Didn't the '88 TCs have a top speed somewhere around 130+mph?  I never understood how they would run that fast with only 190 HP 2.3Turbo compared to the 5.0HOs 225HP and more torque.  I would think a 5.0HO 225HP in a tbird would run close to 140ish, but i'm not going to try to find out with mine:)

Mainly depends on the gearing. :burnout: I did 142 in my '94 Integra with much less HP than my bird.

Back in the day, bone stock, mine did 127-129 depending on how you read the tachometer.  That's at approx 600' above sea level.  My friend in a bone stock GT ran almost exactly the same top speed (he was pacing me), so the aerodynamic difference between a bird and pony is approx 50 hp at that speed.

I've been told or read somewhere the 87-88's could do 140, but I've heard a lot of things.

it's been said that the speed limiter could be bypassed by clipping a wire, who's to say mine wasnt cut or otherwise messed up?

why is it so hard to believe that my car ran over 110? 4000 rpms in drive would be around 115 with 26" tires and 2.73's. it would also hold OD at WOT, everyone says thats not possible with an AOD, but mine sure as hell did.

i'm gathering parts for a t5 swap as we speak, all i need is a bellhousing, clutch fork, and TOB. i got the rest, including the trans for $50. also trying to work out a deal for a 3.73 geared mustang 8.8

You just don't get it and I'm done wasting my time trying to explain it to you.
