Title: swap exhaust from 3.8 to 5.0?
Post by: thunderstud on December 09, 2004, 10:22:56 AM
the 86 5.0 130,000 miles $400 wonder I just bought just dropped a tailpipe. I have my old 88 3.8 227,000 miles still in the driveway for the past 3 weeks just in case for parts. My question is can I remove the 3.8 exhaust and put it on the 5.0 and what about the catylitic converter? Also my driverside door lock selenoid is stuck, can I use the one from the 88. Also can I take the electric moonroof out of the 88 and put it in the 86 or is the roof different. Also, Also, Also anything else I should take?

The exhaust pipe will fit. The y-pipe with the cat you can put on the 86 as well. Although it is probably not a good idea to try and install used exhaust parts. If the s are rusted a good deal they will be near impossible to take apart without breaking, which will make it pretty hard to put it back together on the 86. Look at it this way, now is a perfect time to install duals!

The whole roof panel is different, even among the same year of car where one has a sunroof and one doesn't.  It's too much work.  If you really really really want a sunroff it would be best to buy a car that already has one.

thanks for the imput on the exhaust and the sunroof. I'm too cheap to put on duals and i do like the headroom I have without the sunroof. Maybe i'll put the roof on my blazer, I wonder if it will hold up on fiberglass. Speaking of Blazers, does anyone know why my headlights go out after two minutes when I put on the high beams? If I shut them off I can use low beams again after 2-3 minutes again. I replaced the switch and that did not work. It' not a problem because i only pull a camper in summer with it and havent failed for inspection. i dont drive it at night anyway.

Does your car have the autodim feature? If so there could be some malfunction with that.
