I have a Ruger LCP in my pocket at all times, an XD45 in my bedside table, and a S&W 659. I traded two guns for some Tbird parts a few months ago. I hunt with a Weatherby .270 WSM. I have been looking for a SHTF gun, maybe an AR, but probably something in .308. Leaning towards a SOCOM, or DPMS LR308.

Oooh, yes I have been thinking about getting one of those, but I'm pretty excited about the new LC9 that comes out next month... I'd like to see how it feels though... I've never shot a pistol that small

I've got a Walther PPQ in .40, feels so  good in my hand, anything else is about like holding a 1"x1" board.

I've held and handled a lot of pistols lately at the gun stores, one that keeps coming back to my hand is the Walther PPS, again in .40 S&W. It's a lot smaller, in fact, I think the S&W M&P the previous poster mentioned is very much like it. (Fwiw, S&W is the importer for Walther.)

The PPQ is a medium framed gun, unless you're wearing a large loose shirt or coat or something, ain't easy concealing that bad boy for a skinny guy. The PPS is a lot thinner, just over an inch thick, tucks away very nice. Santa, are you listening? lol

I know a lot of folks have a hard-on for a Glock, and that's fine, but they don't excite me, either by feel OR look. And I've probably touched 17 of them in the last 3 months, fired 2 different ones, both in .40.

I think I'll stick to the hand cannons from Ulm Germany, thank you.

Now, for the deer wackers. I've got a Win Model 70 Black Shadow in .30-06. I call it AT&T, because it will reach out and touch someone..errr, ANY deer.
The .303 Brit has earned it's retirement. It hangs in a place of honor now, I used it for 15 deer seasons, not counting a couple years where I didn't go.

Reviving this. Just got my cert for cc.
Also have a carry toy now..it's the Walther (pr0nounced "vull tuh", btw) PPS in .40, just like it's bigger cousin the PPQ that I also have.
Walther also has a new gun out, called the PPX, from what I've read, it's slightly larger than the PPQ.
My goal is to also collect a P99 (also in .40S&W) and a P22 by year's end.

I'll try to throw up pics later on. Also, for someone that is considering doing the CC, find someone that trusts you, borrow one of their carry guns for a couple weeks..when you're at home, practice carrying IWB. It's uncomfortable for awhile, but you get used to it. Also, the PPS is roughly the same size and weight as a BLOCK 27, so it hides nicely. I've got an ETW holster for it, very nice, but I'm ordering a crossbreed supertuck ASAP.

As I said, I'll get pics in a few.

I haven't used a firearm but would like to start. How does one get started? I'm not sure I'd want anything more than one to CC, but I assume a secondary weapon in the house would be a good idea.

I assume take some classes to start, then go for a concealed carry permit. I know it can take some time to find an ideal weapon to carry on you and one that you like holding, since experience is needed to know truly what you like. What is the best way to find a good class? I would think that this would get the ball rolling. Help? :p

My family has just recently started getting into guns after we inherited a couple of guns that belonged to my wife's grandfather.  We have only been shooting once because due to our unfamiliarity to guns we prefer to have a family friend who knows his stuff at the range with us.  We should be shooting again this weekend.  I plan to eventually get a concealed carry permit but not until I am a more proficient shooter.

Our inherited guns are a JC Higgins .22 rifle that needs some work and a S&W Model 36.  We also just picked up a Ruger 10/22.

A good way to start out is to find someone (friend or relative) that has been around guns for awhile and truly understands them.Ask them to take you out to a range and shoot.
After you feel comfortable shooting and handling a gun , purchase your own and shoot , shoot , shoot..............shoot allot.

When you are ready for your CCW , shop around for a GOOD CCW class (I would also sign up with a friend).after you complete the course , you will be certified to apply for your
CCW license (sheriffs office in Ohio). They do your background check and if you clear, you recieve your CCW licence in the mail.

I would also surf the net. looking at guns, reading about guns and watching youtube videos, anything to familiarize yourself with guns.

Hope this helps

I don't know any local "firearm buffs", other than knowing OF the gangs on the east side of Portland. Around here it's basically nothing but sururbs for all of Portland and the surround areas. While there are firearms in the family (in the Seattle area), they are for "home protection" and there is a real lack of practice/expertise. Portland generally isn't the greatest of places to get much experience around firearms. You'd be amazed around here about how many people think that banning guns is the solution to gun violence. It was here in town that the Clackamas mall shooting happened in December and you can imagine how this played out in such a liberal city.

I'm not concerned of knowing about firearms in general as I've looked into them from time to time for years, but I just never took the plunge. I don't know anyone that I'd trust to get firearm advice from.
