Engine Tech / Completely different question about exhaust
I don't know if its just me, but at stops or such, if someone pulls up really close to me from behind, the car will begin shuddering...happens the same if I back into a parking spot with a wall, hill, etc behind me. I don't know exactly how much room is back there, but I'm guessing around a foot.

Just happened a few minutes ago and I had to creep forward a little more to get away from the person behind me. If anything, I should have less of a problem like this having the semi-dual exhaust

Misc Tech / cylinders vs rpm
Maybe I've never actually thought about this, but I see all the time people talking down upon larger engines just because they generally don't spin at as high of rpm's as smaller imported engines.

Why this comes up now is another thread on turbochargers. Isn't a decent v8 capable of burning through just as much if not more oxygen as a smaller engine, all while keeping the rpm's down low? I haven't put thought into how numbers of cylinders or displacement amount affects the rpm figure of the engine, but I'm guessing those people who love imports for their "high rpm's" have nothing over the v8's in airflow (and in turn, amount of exhaust gases).

Weight on the other hand :dunno:

Lounge / Target
edit: Looks like their people caught on and took the page down. I'm looking to see if I can get an "offline" screenshot from someone because when I revisited, it changed my cache.

Misc Tech / Windshield Wipers
okay, since it started raining all the time, I started to notice that about 80% of the time when the wipers are on, when they're supposed to return to their horizontal near-parked positions, they may stop a few inches up. This morning the tips had to have been 6" up the window. Turning the switch up to the second notch would eventually get the wipers to lay down like they're supposed to after each wipe, but going back to the slower delayed setting (notch 1), they'd begin to rest high again. I don't THINK anything HERE  deals with the exact problem but I may be wrong. What's wearing out and should it/can it be replaced new or is it a trip to the junkyard?

It seems to go down better when the window is slick, but not "clean" clean. I may have to invest in some more rainx.

Site Suggestions / Irc
I don't know if this has come up before (I'm sure it has), but has there been any thought into creating an IRC channel for this board? Does one currently exist for any of the tbird/cougar websites/message boards? I know from past boards that it usually works out quite well and in the long run, the communities built up seem to stick around, even after things move on (although in the case of cars, its unlikely that'll happen). Anyone have any input on this?

For the people who prefer not to use an irc client, java applets seem to work well and require little bandwidth. The only problem that is always run into is always having someone in the channel to moderate but I doubt it'd be an issue for a place like this.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Metal headlight reflectors
I don't know what percentage of cars come with actual metal headlight reflectors instead of paint, but I'm curious if places would custom make a headlight housing out of something such as aluminum for a fair price. I have no idea what goes into making certain shapes with metal and how expensive it is. I figure this - something such as aluminum that doesn't rust should be long-lasting, be more reflective when polished than the "chrome paint" like current reflectors, and it'd allow brighter/hotter bulbs without melting the housing. It wouldn't cost too much to make, would it (one piece or having the joined edges blended well)?

My headlights still suck after making the lenses clear again and I used the two reflectors that have the most undamaged paint (had 2 sets). On empty/dark roads, they light up the road just fine, but if there's any streetlights or other cars, I don't see any of my own light. I'm still trying to figure out why a 2001 saturn and a 99 escort (which has horribly yellowed/clouded up lights) both light up the road so much more than my bird. I'm thinking about just pointing the headlights downward more and using the highbeams for now.

In front of a garage, they light up the garage and surroundings extremely well, yet on the open road, they're...well  :barf: Yes, they're adjusted properly right now. Being that its getting dark extremely early now (with the time change), I figure its time to get back to improving night safety.

Audio & Other Aftermarket Electronics / Stock equalizer button
I don't remember where it was that I read which solder points to join to force the EQ to stay on all the time, but I figure someone here must know. I grew tired of it not working and didn't like having something wedged under the power button to keep it on. So which 2 of the 3 points on the pcb need to be soldered to keep the thing on?

Thanks

Suspension/Steering / Parking brake
Okay, I just got to college and went to set the park brake...about 3/4 of the way in, something sounded/felt like it popped off and it no longer is giving me resistence. I didn't have time to test if the brake is set or not but I bet it is. Anyone have any tips on what to try out when class is over? The pull-release should still work, shouldn't it?

Also, what came undone? Easy fix? I "think" I have my haynes in the car so that should help.

User Rides / 88 5.0
I took this today when going to get pictures of the pcv location. If I can find any other ones already on the computer, I'll edit this post.

Currently completely stock 5.0 with 180,000 miles with exception of a replacement TC wheel (got tired of the wheel melting on hot days)

Engine Tech / PCV on 5.0
I believe some problems I'm having are linked to the pcv valve - be it the valve being plugged, grommets being bad, or the hose plugged. I've been having to refill the oil frequently and idle was rough although seems to be better now (I take it that the cooler weather is helping). The issue is that my Haynes manual shows a location for it on a carbed 302, not the fuel injected. Anyone have a description on where to find the thing?
