Needing a diff

'85 T-bird needs wheel bearings in the rear end, which from the book looks to be a more involved and delecate thing than I'd really want to do in my gravel driveway with a car hanging over my head; so I'm thinking it's time to just get a replacement diff.

I've got a 7.5 open, 2.73 gears.  I don't think I can really justify a better gear ratio since I'm only running a C5.  Quad-shock and traction-lok would be nice, don't care if 7.5 or 8.8.  I would like to help out someone here that has a donor car they're already parting out in Indiana.  If nobody here has one, anybody want to meet up and go j-yarding with me and help install?

Hey man I live about 2 hours south of Indy near Bloomington.  I just took my 7.5 out this week to put in an 8.8 out of a TC.  The rear has about 180,000 miles on it but I've never had a single problem with it.  I haven't had the cover off but I'm sure its ok...never made any noises or anything.  My car is stock motor wise so it's not like I broke it or busted it.  If you want it maybe we can work something out...It would be convenient because we're so close distance wise.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, my computer killed it's modem somehow and I just now got my box working again.

Anyway, that might work out ok, but seems kinda counter-intuitive to swap a 140,000 mile diff for a 180,000 mile diff.  So what are the specs of your old diff?

The pressure isn't quite as much to get it fixed immediately now since I got the Korean running and happy again to use as a winter beater.  Now if only I could find a job for what I went to school for I'd be all set.

Is yours the wide one or the narrow one?  The narrow one has brake drums with the  offset.
