Last week I downloaded an app for free on the android market. It's called "car performance" and is basically a speedometer and timer all in one. You can use it to find quarter mile, top speed, etc... I have never been to a track with my car, but using this app and a horsepower calculator online, it seems to be pretty close to what I should be running for a stock mustang engine (1983) in a car that weighs 3,740 lbs. Here are the stats for my run:
I am having some issues that seem to point towards a head gasket, but would like some input before tearing into the project. The coolant is brown in color and it is running rough. Other than that, there are no symptoms.
I did a compression check and all cylinders are 140-150 across the board. The plugs looked normal. The exhaust isn't spewing white smoke and the oil looks okay. What else can I check to narrow down the problem?
I am looking for an H or X pipe for my recently installed 302. Either one is fine as long as the price is right. It has stock shorty headers so the pipes will need to bolt right up. I will need an entire exhaust system eventually, but don't quite have the cash for that yet. Let me know what you have and we'll make a deal :D *EDIT* I would prefer an off road pipe simply because it is cheaper and I have no need for emissions equipment in this state. I can get a new one for about $120 + shipping and really can't spend much more than that.
I picked up a 302 for $300 yesterday. After some investigation, I am not sure what it is I bought. The intake part number checks out for a 1983 mustang 4 barrel, but the block casting is E5AE C3B. That means the block is a 1985, correct? That would also make it a roller block? The plug wires are set up for the standard firing order, not the high output. Does this mean it is likely not a HO?
The guy I bought it from said he pulled it out of a 1983 mustang and it had less than 1000 miles on a rebuild. After taking a look at under one of the valve covers, I would believe it - very clean. There is some rust on the pulleys so I am guessing it had been sitting for awhile. I would just like to get an idea of what exactly I have short of tearing it all apart.
The right rear brake on my 82 drags when moving forward. Reverse is just fine, but the second I put it into drive, it sticks. The parking brake is also very hard to engage. I am thinking that maybe the self adjuster is malfunctioning. Is it possible to install that backwards? I did recently do some brake work on it.
I am selling my 87 so that I can get a pickup truck, preferably something w/ 4wd. I was just wondering if anyone else had a preference on what make/model would be the best investment. My budget is about $1000. I don't do much towing, just the occasional furniture moving. I am kind of a ford man (duh) so I have been looking at the F series with the 300, 302, or 351. Manual or automatic doesn't matter, but gas mileage would be nice. Ideas? Pointers? As far as 4wd goes, I don't know much about automatic locking hubs vs. manual ones. Is one better than the other?
I'm auctioning off my headphones on ebay. These are the best headphones I've ever owned, hands down. I am only selling them because money is short and I don't listen to them enough to justify owning them.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280544104873
I have a spare cluster sitting around collecting dust. I assume it works fine, but I have never used it. Originally purchased from someone on here, but I can't remember who. $30 + shipping.
I also have a taillight for an 85-86 bird. It is in good condition, but not showroom quality. No cracks or major blemishes. $35 + shipping
Lock set for trunk and glove box w/ key. $20 + shipping.
Fuel sending unit for digital gauges. $25
Passenger side window motor from 85 bird. Very lightly used, reman. $20
Engine, computer and harness, trans, and exterior trim have been spoken for. Everything else is up for grabs. I will get pics as soon as I am able. The car is dark blue as well as the interior.
Like the title says, need a pair of taillights for an 88. Need to be in good condition, no cracks. Let me know what you have and we'll work out a price. Thanks!
I just finished this little project. I wanted a stock appearance for my '82 so I bought a stock radio, gutted it, and resoldered the pots for my own purposes. I basically have an amp control for any device using a 3.5mm plug. This is then adapted into two rca outputs which will be split into 4 for the amp. I wired up everything on the left side pots in such a way that I could retain the volume, balance, and power switch. I haven't had the chance to install it yet, but after a thorough bench test, it's good to go.
If anyone is interested in something like this, I can write up some quick and dirty instructions/diagrams
