Title: Replacing the trans.
Post by: 88FoxBird on March 14, 2005, 04:28:03 PM
Ok, my reverse is toast. Now heres the deal, I have an AOD out of an '84 LTD that had the police package. Now I'm curious if I can use that trans. The other thing I'm wondering about is the number on the bell housing. My bird has 52 stamped on it and one off the LTD has 54, I was just wondering what those stood for.

It'll work.I put a tranny from a Ford pickup in my T-Bird.I'm getting ready to change the complete drivetrain now.Make sure your shift lever and TV cable lever are the same.

Check the tailshaft length also.I had to shorten my driveshaft  by 3/4 of an inch.
it only cost $35,but it's still critical.

Finally got around to looking at the trans. Obviously the LTD was a floor shift, the levers upside down. I'm gonna have to use my TV cable on it also. Good thing is its the right length and now I have an excuse to convert to floor shift.

If it was a Fox LTD, then I know at least the LX's (pretty rare) and I guess maybe some of the police ones were floor shifted.  But I've never seen a full size Crown Vic that was floor shift.
