Engine Tech / 88 3.8 V6 to 5.0 V8 Swap questions
looking into swapping my 88 V6 bird to a 302 from a mustang / explorer

I've read the guide on coolcats and apparently my car is pretty much set up for the 5.0 but I'll need a 86-88 5.0 engine harness from a bird or cougar

has anyone done this swap on an 88 here to confirm that? or any other things I should know? thanks

Suspension/Steering / Mustang sway bar on thunderbird
coolcats says that a 87-93 Mustang GT sway bar is the same as the 87-88 TC & will fit on the 83-88 thunderbird/cougar

can anyone here confirm it fits? some said it's not angled the same where it mounts to the end links

User Rides / 88 Turbo Coupe Project
Figured I'd make a project thread to share my experience of putting my TC back on the road  :birdsmily:

got it back in September of 2019 for $1000 and I've done quite a lot of work to it

I'll add some pictures to the thread later

  • swapped out the teves master cylinder with a good used one since the pump was dead on mine
  • rear end rebuilt since it was worn out / I think it was run low on fluid since it had a leaky wheel seal and it ended up wearing out the rear end
  • valve job done on the head and installed a RR Cam with roller followers and the nice ranger valve cover gasket
  • new rack and pinion, tie rod ends, and sway bar bushings / end links
  • had a hurst short throw in it already which was nice since the factory shifters are junk
  • Esslinger cam gear to retard the timing some to gain some top end back with the RR cam
  • catch can between the intake and PCV valve
  • ported E6 manifold with the EGR port converted to a wastegate port
  • Stinger FMIC
  • Stinger 3" single exhaust with a dynomax ultra flo and no catalytic converter
  • modified fox mustang cold air intake to work for the 2.3T (basically just trimmed the pipes down)
  • Aeromotive AFPR set to factory pressure (got it for cheap and figured I'd need it at some point)
  • powder coated the valve cover, upper intake, and coolant lines
  • new clutch slave and master
  • autometer boost, oil pressure, and water temp gauges since the factory ones weren't too reliable

I recently acquired a parts lot that came with a mildly ported head with a Bo-port 2.1 cam so I'll be installing it soon

also bought a rebuilt factory .63 SVO turbo to replace the IHI with

the Pimp ECU is probably the next big upgrade I'd like to do so I'm on the lookout for a used one

an SVO turbo or a decent T3 or T3/T4

roller cam (not a ranger roller) preferably like a Boport 1.1 / 1.5 or something close

trying to save some money and buy used, will need shipped to Tampa FL

I've owned the Silver one since about 2013 and just recently got the black on in September of 2019

Silver one has 28k original miles currently and is all stock other than a new radio and new speakers

The turbo coupe is also basically all stock other than radio, speakers, Autometer boost gauge, and a 3G alt upgrade

Electrical Tech / Charging system problem, battery not charging
a few days ago I took my t-bird out for a drive and the dash lights flickered on and off then as i got to a stop light it died and wouldnt crank since the battery was apparently dead

replaced the battery and alternator but it didn't fix the problem, alternator is still not charging my battery

any help with this?  its a 1988 Thunderbird V6
