I'm looking forward to seeing the faces of my nay-sayers once she's shiny again. I'm happy the car is running so well now that I replaced my timing and fan belts.

The car only has 90,000 mi on it and it was parked a long time. The paint you see on it is a very bad later spray job. The original color was the med canyon red, I think.

Well, I think my car is going to see paint very soon so I thought I'd post a few pics of what it looks like now.
I'm going to start sanding today. I'm getting it ready for paint myself.

As I've mentioned, the paint finish was very dull and orange-peeled:


I gouged the hood with a drill-sander and had to put primer over it. The only color I had was orange.


There is a lot of over-spray on the car, on the chrome and trim.


The driver's door has some rust and I wanted to see how deep it was, then had to use my orange primer on it.


I put wax on the car but it was so orange-peeled I couldn't get the wax off.


This is the taillight lens that fell off. As you can see, I haven't glued it yet.


And of coarse the missing trim.

Well, I just got back into town today and picked up my car from the repair shop. It turns out it was the timing belt. It was missing a bunch of teeth so the rotor wasn't turning. $235, pretty reasonable. He put on a new fan belt, too. He wants me to come back in a week to have the belt tightened. I'm happy my car is running. Now if I could only get paint on it so my eyes will quit bleeding when I look at it.

The problem with my Start Menu programs was caused by having too many programs in my Start Menu/programs folder. If you have more than 70, the list goes blank.

Lounge / screensaver
I just dug up an oldie but goodie screensaver program. If anybody wants to send me a full side shot of their car, suitable for cropping - no busy backgrounds, I'll make a (hopefully) cool screensaver.

I'm finding that my computer is running much faster, as well.
The only problem I'm having is that no programs show on my start menu "all programs" but I'm working on it.
I can see that you might have problems with an older graphics card.

I have an ati video card on my laptop and haven't been having any problems so far. My ati catalyst program even seems to be running and the install said it probably wouldn't. As far as I know my drivers are up to date. I game on my laptop and I monitor my graphics performance. I'm using a radeon 2400 driver.

I just installed the windows 7 rc. So far so good. Everything seems to be working.
Some of the programs on my computer have questionable backgrounds.
It has some kind of theme thing. I'm not sure what it does yet.

I have the 2.3 litre turbo engine.
Yes, he realized later that the voltage regulator wouldn't be the problem. It was a mechanic from a starter place that suggested it might be a build up of corrosion on the cap/rotor. It's not the bf buying the parts, it's me and I don't know the first thing about cars so I'm at the mercy of other people's opinions. He wouldn't intentionally have me throw money away but I appreciate the experience of you guys here. I'll tell him what you suggested about the distributor parts.
The car has been running great up until now and is turning over with no problem.
