Lounge / Re: Anyone still around?
This caught my eye. I will assume there are folks like me who who spend a lot of time searching and reading, all helpful information as I pick any and enjoy my T-bird. The forum has a ton of answers that are easy to find. Thank you all for the input already posted.
Loving the kick when that turbo spools up in every gear. Who new you could have this much fun under the speed limit.

Engine Tech / Identifing a 2.3 Motor?
As I pick away at replacing aged items for no other reason but they are old and it’s a small price to pay for the confidence to avoid break down or not cooking a great running motor. Up to now, Hoses, Radiator, Alternator (Starter, Regulator, which did fail), Water Pump, Battery, and Tires.
According to VIN # this car left the factory as a V-6. Now has a 2.3, single spark plug Turbo with an aftermarket intercooler and plumbing, Installed by a previous owner.
Looking to replace the Plugs , Wires, Cap, Rotor, Condenser, or whatever I will find under the cap.
Questions:
How do I identify exactly what his motor is?
What are the best Spark Plugs.
From what I see in other posts, Motorcraft is recommended for the distributor items.
Thanks

Engine Tech / Re: 2.3 Turbo Crusing RPM Sweet Spot?
I have to credit the previous owner on thorough job of rebuilding the 2.3 and adding an aftermarket inter-cooler. I don't know if it has any internal upgrades. The vehicle runs great but I'm sure it's not at it's full potential of more low end torque. Unfortunately it passed through another owner whom I suspect experimented with the vacuum & boost lines.  Again I'm educating myself on this and enjoy the challenge of sorting it out.

Engine Tech / 2.3 Turbo Crusing RPM Sweet Spot?
Going on a few months now that enjoying my new to me 85 Turbo Coupe, 5-Speed stick, T-Bird. This one is a driver that purrs like a kitten and hums along at higher RPM s.  Open for consensus from group, Both opinion and fact ?
What is considered abuse, or what these 2.3 Four cylinder motors were designed for?
This is not as my daily driver and I like taking it out on a weekend morning when traffic is quiet and running the tach around the 4000 RPM range for extended intervals through the local twisted back roads.
(which feels to me on this motor, as what I'm calling the "sweet- spot" around 4K )
Over the years I've restored my share of muscle V-8s. This 4-cylinder stuff is new to me, so far I'm impressed.

Electrical Tech / Re: Autolamp Relay

OK, good news, I’m working in the right direction. Next step for me,
Physically locate the S116 High beam, & S115 l Low beam junction’s, and splice the Relay(s) into an accessible point prior to each junction.
2.3 came with an aftermarket Inter-cooler, runs good, needs some TLC for its full potential.

Headlight Relay Installation
Hello, I know this is a frequent & old topic but I can’t find the link that further explains it.
Found what I think is the correct diagram for my 85 T-bird. Highlight’s.

Question is, Where on the vehicle does the GRN /Blk , and the RED/BLK branch off?
I am hoping the branch is closer to the headlights themselves, or at least under the hood, making the install of the relay’s consist of only Two.
Am I on the right path?
Thanks, John C.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / Headlight Bucket Hardware 85- Quad Lights
I have just acquired this project, the important stuff is there and I have a laundry list of misc. stuff starting with headlight bucket hardware. I am looking for sources or part numbers for new or old, in new condition. I see a lot on e-bay ect. but The retainer spring style is my big question. I have found two different ( rusty) types on the vehicle and want to replace all 4 with new that will hold, but be so tight that they rip out the plastic body at the anchor socket.
Also Replacements for the adjuster screws and snap in hardware.
Thanks
John C
