Engine Tech / anti knock sensor
My 1986 Cougar has the 3.8L.  Does the car have a anti knock sensor? I called Autozone and they said the car never had one. Is that correct?  Or maybe it's called a knock detonation sensor? Can someone verify if Autozone is correct.  Thanks!

Engine Tech / 1986 Cougar 3.8 L won't idle.
My 1986 Cougar 3.8 L V6 won't idle on its own. The milage is 135,000, which is relatively low for the age. If I manually spray starter fluid down into the throttle body the car starts right up and runs great until the fuel is burned off. I have replaced or done the following:
1. replaced the fuel pressure regulator
2. replaced the fuel injectors
3. replaced the control module
4. replaced the pick up coil
5. replaced the fuel filter
6. replaced the computer
7. replaced the battery cables
8. fuel pump is ok and fuel pressure is good
9. Bought a tune up kit for the throttle body and did that

After doing all of this there is no change and the car will not idle on its own. ANY ideas on how to get this car running again???

Engine Tech / 3.8 L Cougar idling problem
My 86 Cougar GS (that I bought new in 86) starts right up but immediately stalls unless I keep my foot on the gas pedal. This started about a month ago with the engine surging for a while at start up but then it leveled out after a few minutes of running. Now it just starts right up & stalls. Clogged fuel injector? Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated!

Engine Tech / 1986 Cougar fuel line leak
I bought my 1986 Cougar (3.8L single port fuel injected) as a new car in 1986. A few days ago the 30 year old fuel line, under the front passenger seat area of the car, sprung a leak. This is probably due the age of the line (I think the line is made of nylon or some kind of plastic) and the destructive ethanol we are forced to have in our gasoline. Anyway, I have called all over the place trying to locate a replacement fuel line but no one has one. Can a replacement section be spliced into repair this? (that seems potentially dangerous(?)because the fuel in the line is under probably 40psi) or where can I find a replacement fuel line…so I can replace the entire line from the tank up to the engine.

Any advice would be appreciated. If I can't fix this I am afraid the car will end up in a salvage yard.  Thanks in advance!
