Post by: Knocker on January 14, 2019, 09:43:27 PM
Ok had enough with the CFI. Im also a family guy...this is a dirt cheap build. Goal is to be respectable at the red light.
California car cost me $1400.00 68000 miles

Right off the bat I needed to ditch the 14" wheels.X

88 mustang turbines $80.00
16 1.500 lugnuts.      $32.00 Advanced auto
235/75/15 used.        $90.00
Mount/balanced.      $52.00

Now im gathering parts to swap to carb. Cheapest ready to run distributor is this X746-PCE385.1005 thru jegs. $128. Vs Msd $350. Gave a half hearted attempt at finding timing marks on the crank.....didnt really see anything.....may just delete the non working AC system. Still a cluster.

Planning on useing the Holley red fuel pump with relay and regulator. All together id say $400 bucks. Need to start calling yards......would a normal mustang cast iron manifold fit? Or can I get away with useing aftermarket headers. Deleting all emissions. So id like to stay bolt on as far as possible. Do have the correct crossmember for duels. Very tempted to say a mustang H pipe will bold directly to my factory collectors.

Mustang stuff does fit, but I have been told an h-pipe will not bolt onto our manifolds. Never tried it, but it is a different sized collector and angles different.

If you are a column shift, the linkage can get in the way. Stock Stang shorties have a bit of clearence, but may rub.

Ballancer should have the same marks as a Stang...m haven't had an 84, but they are very faint. I clean off the balancer and hit it with some chalk

Don't think you will find any timing marks. The timing on EEC III is not adjustable.
The distributor is in a fixed position and can't be turned. It just distributes the spark to the plugs. No stator or hall effect emitter.
You have a pulse ring on the damper and a crank sensor.
I'd be curious if there are marks under the pulse ring, if you can get it off. They did make carb versions of these cars for export  to Canada.
Otherwise, you will have to make your own timing marks and a pointer.

Many, many, many years ago, I converted my '83 EEC3 car to carb.

It's not that hard to convert it to a Duraspark II ignition. You will actually have to take the time to time to dig through the wiring diagrams to find the correct wiring connections, but there are only a couple.

I don't recall having any issues finding timing marks on my car, but this was also 20+ years ago.

I'm trying to remember what I did about the fuel system. I don't think I converted it to a mechanical pump, though. I wasn't about to do that. It's possible that I just pulled the high-pressure in-line pump and just made sure the intank pump had a full 12V to it (They don't normally). They're only about 8psi.

I may or may not have notes in an old notebook.
