Gas milage

What kind of gas mileage does everyone get? I have an 87 Cougar with a 3.8 and i get and average of 24.7 :dunno:. That is even after adding a newer y-pipe with only one cat and dual exhaust. It only helped a little bit I used to get about 23 before.

I get from 20 - 23 with my '85 5.0 CFI.  And that's driving like a prick.

last month: driving fast on entire tank- 14.7, slow - 14.8, all city driving - 8 miles with like 25 stoplights daily. Obviously it needs to be fixed but the weather got nasty quickly. Runs flawless but there has to be a problem somewhere :(

Last time i drove up to seattle, I was around 30mpg at 70-80mph entire trip minus Tacoma traffic and lowered speed limit.

I thought my gas mileage was a little off. Now i drive very conservativly cause if i drive like i used to then i get like 17-18. My check engine light as been on for a little while, I think is the o2 sensors they are original and my car has about 165,000 miles. I picked some up a few days ago but haven't had a chance to change them yet. At least it can't hurt to change them if that isn't it.

After tuning up and a few minor mods my past 2 fill ups have gotten me  350 and 380 miles per tank respectively. I think it was around 18-19mpg city. On a recent trip to columbus, i think i used 3 maybe 4 gallons for a 160ish mile trip (between 35-40mpg)

In heavy city and rush hour traffic like having to wait at every light for 3-5 cycles before getting thru I get 13-15.  Real open road zero traffic 30.  Typical  mixing it up 19-22

Around town my '87 5.0 gets about 19mpg.  On a highway trip I usually see around 25.  Not too bad, IMO.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
