Electrical Tech / Re: Instrument Cluster Lights out
Unfortunately not, when I turn the dimmer switch wheel the lights remain out.  It only happens when the headlights are turned on, when they are off the digital instrument cluster is fully lit.

Electrical Tech / Re: Instrument Cluster Lights out
I just started to have the same issue on mine. I replaced the headlight switch and the electronic cluster goes dim when the headlights turn on.
The electronic cluster is on full bright with the headlights off.
With the headlights on, it is adjustable with the dimmer control.
Sorry, my post wasn't very clear. What I meant to say was that my dash lights are doing the same thing. I replaced the switch thinking it was bad, but it is doing the same thing with the new switch, full bright with the headlights off and then goes dim when the headlights are turned on.

Electrical Tech / 88 Cougar Corner Light Relay Location
I am having some issues with my driver's side corner light on my 88 Cougar - it works when it wants too and takes a few seconds before it even comes on when it does.  I replaced the light assembly itself thinking the assembly was bad - I did not think about checking the relay first.  Where are the corner light relays located in the car? I have looked and saw many relays under the dash behind the console - did research and cannot find them.  I saw new ones with a bracket on a website, but where are they?  THANKS!!

Electrical Tech / Digital Dash 'Spots'
I have an 88 Cougar LS with the full digital dash, and I am having 'spots' appearing on the upper right section where you select the different mileage readouts (Avg economy, Inst economy, etc.)  It looks as though the backing is starting to almost chip away showing these 'spots'.  They appear where the orange arrows are, on the readout itself and in the background.  Is this normal with age and can it be repaired?  It's really bugging me!

Engine Tech / Oil Pressure Gauge Issue
I have an issue with my oil pressure gauge.  I have read the numerous postings on the oil sending unit, but cannot find the same issue that I am currently experiencing.  If I am repeating something that has already been posted, my apologies.  I have an 88 Cougar LS with the 5.0 and full digital dash.  The car can sit for 3 to 4 weeks at a time before I drive it, and is not driven in the winter.  Today I drove the car after sitting for about 3 weeks and after I drove for about a mile the oil pressure alarm sounded and the pressure gauge showed 1 to 0 bars.  It went off for about a minute, then stopped and showed normal range.  It sounded off again about 30 seconds later, again showing no bars then about 30 seconds later showed a normal reading, then operated normally all the way to work - about a 15 mile ride.  This only happens when the car is not driven for a period of time and when I drive it somewhat regularly the oil pressure is always normal and shows no issues.  On the way home - there were no alarms and the gauge showed a normal reading.  The same thing happens when I start the car a few times over the winter and let it idle.  Is there a real issue or is the gauge just acting wacky, and why does it only happen when the car is not driven for a period of time?  I do not have an oil pressure gauge to check the pressure myself and I am thinking I need to have it checked by a mechanic.  I had the oil pressure sending unit checked by the dealer last year due to the same issue and they stated it was operating normally, though I do not know how they 'tested' it.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

wow , great looking cougar...............really like that color!!!

Funny story with that.  My Dad, who bought it new, was absolutely hooked on the Cinnabar color, maybe because it was only made that year.  He looked all over New York for one, and he also wanted the V8 with the digital dash.  After much searching, it so happened that the local dealer ended up getting one delivered, so he bought it.  Guess it was meant to be! :o

Yes, its insured for $8000, though I don't think its worth that much, I keep pictures saved so if something happens, they know the condition and mileage.

That looks really nice. Al most scary clean.

Since it's not a daily driver and considering how clean/low mileage it is you have some sort of collector insurance policy on it right?

That IS interesting. Will you post pics of the rest of the car? Looks like a pretty nice machine. :)

Here's a couple more pics.

First of all...I am impressed with the shape of both your car and your door sticker. Impressing me is not easy, so take that at face value. ;)

Not every VIN is fulfilled...there are always sequence gaps. But it is over 100,000. I cannot remember if there was August 1988 production or not...it was possible.
If you get a Ford 999 report, you'd know a little more.

How do I obtain a Ford 999 report?

Misc Tech / How Late of A Build Is My Car
I was looking at the Door Tag on my car and noticed it was a late build car.  Can anyone tell me what sequence number it might be?

Cool, are you keeping it in a garage too?
It's been garaged with me as well.

Looks awesome.  Did you just get it?
No, my Dad bought it new and handed it over to me about 3 years ago.  Still remember when he bought it and my first ride in it.  He kept it garaged and it has never seen a winter.  It was his Baby for a long while.
