Title: The car that brought me back
Post by: 88FoxBird on August 03, 2019, 08:12:35 PM
Well here she is. 85 Thunderbird 5.0 base in light regatta blue. Was browsing fb market place for some 351w parts for another project and this popped up for 1500 as soon as I opened it. Being what it is and the fact you don't see them in my area anymore I had to look. Long story short I drove an hour and a half away to pick up this 102k mile gem. Needless to say the 78 f150 is kinda on hold at the moment lol.

Current plans are to redo the suspension first then 8.8 swap and t5 swap. After that I'll move on to the engine. Anyway here's some pics lol. Came with hubcaps and mudflaps now she sporting a set of welds and no flaps lol

Looks like a good score for the money. Bonus points for the “wing window “
The weld wheels really brought it to life huh? Keep us posted

Those welds and getting rid of the mudflaps made a huge difference lol. I'll keep everyone posted lol. Been atleast 10 years since I've been in one of these. Last one I had was an 86 cougar i got off a member on here. Before that I had an 88 and 87 bird. I do have a tc hood I scored for 100 bucks that just a has a ding from storage. I'll get a pic of it later.

Looks like a nice start man! The wheels really do make or break these cars.

Doing the 8.8 with some good gears and a T5 will make the car feel like a different animal.

That's what I'm hoping for. Right now it's just a cfi 5.0 and I'm torn between going carb or sefi.

Where are you in ohio? I have almost everything for a ho conversion. A9l. Mass air computer harness, fuel rail, explorer intake and 19# injectors. I was rounding stuff up before I bought the fitech kit.

With the options that have been coming out in recent history, and how cheap it is to get performance SEFI parts on the used market, I wouldn't go carb.

+1. Fuel injection all the way.

It's gonna stay until it's ready for paint. Not big on bumper stickers but I like that one lol.

I'm in akron. Might have to take you up on that before I spend too much more on this car lol.

Chuck I think I'll stay efi. Been looking into some of the ms kits out there and I'm liking what I'm seeing lol.

I hear ya. I can't remember but I'm pretty sure I have most of the stuff. Not all but most. And I'm not going to use any of it now. Soon as the car is drivable its gonna be time to sort out my parts and start letting stuff go.

It would take me 40+ years to learn to tune a carb.

Finally got the control arm bolts cut out and the new bmr control arms in. Also found out my steeringrack leaks yay lol. Looks like the 15:1 rack is gonna come sooner than expected. Still gotta get my che arms for rear yet also.

Quick side note. Milwaukee torch carbide recip blades are the tits. Made 4 cuts on the driverside bolts with life to spare on one blade. Im impressed.

I tried doing the Sawzall method of removing the front control arms once. I killed 2 blades and ended up using a longer breaker bar and the  things came apart easy.

I'm going to have to grab a Milwaukee blade or two to have on hand here soon.

If it wasn't for all the ziebart coating under the car and oil from leaks id've just torched them out but I found out that ziebart burns when heated enough and I didn't want to deal with that lol. I went through a 5 pack of diablo bimetal blades first try and only got halfway through and gave these a try lol. Pass side was a piece of cake tho they came right out lol. I just hope the back end goes smooth
