Engine Tech / Salvage yard motors
I'm going to go look at a late 80's lincoln Mark vii lsc sometime soon, and the guy who works at the salvage yard said I could have the entire assembly for $650 bucks. He also has some crown vic motors and the such from like...'84 I think he said.

Has anybody else purchased a motor from a salvage yard?

My '88, one of two '87-'88 Tbirds on USF's tampa campus. I'm proud to say mine is in the best shape and runs excellently. I plan to convert the motor when I get out of college. I'm not sure to what yet, but we'll see. I want to do something different, but I'm not sure what yet. I think a gt-40 crate motor would be nice, something I know Thunderchicken has done.

The 2nd to last picture is pre-paint job, and before I cleaned up the headlights.

Engine Swapping / 4.6
Has anybody on this website put an sn-95 4.6 motor in their car?

I know a lot of people here put 5.0's in their cars, but I know a place with a shiznitton of 4.6's...rather cheap, I think for the entire motor assembly, 600-ish bucks.

worth considering? Would this require incredibly extensive work? Or would it be more cost efficient to find an old 5.0and throw that in there?

Lounge / Scammers
Me and my fiance, as of late, have been searching for a place to live. She's finishing her 2 year degree up at a community college, then coming to join me at USF with our daughter.

Last night, my fiance emailed me some prospective locations. One in particular she asked me to look at. It was a 4br/2ba house, for $900 a month, utilities included. I looked at the ad on Craigslist, and it looked pretty nice. Definitely a good find for a college student.

So my fiance responded to the ad. The"owner" emailed her. He said his name was John Rondas or Rondia or something. Well this John guy said he was a missionary, and had brought his entire family to West Africa to do missionary work. He said the reason the rent was so low was because he was a pastor, and that he wanted to help someone in need. Plus he just wanted someone to take care of the house while he was gone. He sent us an application via email to apply to live there. Alyssa (my fiance) filled it out, but before sending it back, had me go look at it, since it's right near USF. (I live on campus).

So I arrive at the house, and I see a Century 21 sign in the front yard. I call the number, and the agent lets me know that the ad is a scam, and when you send the 400 dollar security deposit, you never hear from the guy again.

Apparently, this guy is not a missionary at all. The house is actually owned by none other thn Bill Grammatica (Arizona, New york) and somehow the scammer knew the guy was gone so he took pics and said the house was his.

What kind of person pretends to be a missionary in hopes of scamming someone? What was the guy antiting people do once they saw the Century 21 sign in the front yard?

People like this make me sick...there's better ways to deal with a recession than scam people.

Suspension/Steering / Struts
About 2 years ago i had new struts put in in the front of my '88 Tbird v6. Since I've had these new struts, my car creaks really bad whenever I turn. It's most noticeable when I turn the wheel while going in reverse. I had it looked at and I was told that the problem could be that whoever put the new struts in didn't use a mounting kit....is this valid? Any other reason for this creaking?

How hard is it to put new struts in? I'm thinking about doing it myself.

Engine Tech / Performance Chips
So I was visiting http://www.performancechipsdirect.com, and they claim that they make a performance chip for my car.

The website claims you can get up to a 50 horsepower gain....

The chip is only 80 dollars, and I'm wondering if this is a worthwhile investment, and how much it will actually improve my horsepower.

I have an '88 T-bird V-6...Does anybody think it will do much for my car?

Engine Tech / Motors.
Is the 1994-96 Ford Mustang V-6 exactly the same motor as a 1987-88 Thunderbird/Cougar motor? I'm unaware if there's very many differing intricacies..

If it is....what's the most inexpensive power adder outside of a cold air intake you can do to one of these motors? (inexpensive being...less than 300 dollars, let's say)
