All passenger car 5.0/302 from '86-up are roller... Those cams will not work in a std lifter block...

If whatever this said cam is, whatever the cirspoogestances, IS indeed the stock cam from an 80s 5.0 HO, if it is pre-1985, it is not a roller cam, if it is 1985 or newer, it is roller.

it can be done.  to drill the lifter valley and make it a roller block as long as you have all of the required parts to do so.

But you still won't have the proper support for the LONGER roller lifters...

Aftermarket cams for std blocks, have a smaller diameter base circle than the factory cams...

Then it is not a factory 302 HO so you have no way of knowing what cam is in the engine ;)

Weren't the 85 Mustang 5.0 rollers? You do realize someone could have carbed a 5.0 HO right?

If he really wants to make the sale, tell him you want to yank a valve cover and measure a push-rod.  That'll tell you if it's a roller cam or not.

Flat tappet 302 push-rods are approximately 6.875" long, while factory roller push-rods are 6.200"...if the engine has an aftermarket roller lifter conversion, they'll be about 6.400" long.

Good luck,
Don

91-93 cats and birds with the 5.0 supposedly use the 93 cobra spec cam.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

There are a few 87-88 5.0 Cougarbirds HERE that are carbed.....Just because something's on a used car when you got it doesn't make it stock ;)

As stated above; ask him what the pushrod length is.

The Cobra cam has a 1993 part #.  It WAS used in 93 Cougars/Tbirds, but with 1.6 ratio rockers as opposed to the 1.7 ratio rockers in the Mustang Cobra.  '91 & '92 model year Cougars & Tbirds 5.0 cars used the H.O. cam.
