Body/Appearance/Interior / Porno Red Door Panel Leaching!
Howdy, long time since I've had to post anything. All of a sudden my door panels are leaching red colorant, it's the strangest thing. I've had this car for 11 years now and never an issue until this year. So, I thought I'd post here to see if anyone has had this issue and just what to do about it. I'm thinking I'll just clean the door panels (it's actually the portion that supports the armrest horizontal and then swoops up to hold the door lock switches) with soap and water and hope for the best.

Have a great rest of summer!

Going in a few hours to Milan Dragway. Sure would be cool to see some Fox Birds or Cats there!!!

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / 87-88 Coolant Overflow Bottle
I'll try to verify which one I actually need, but I am pretty sure I need the Coolant Overflow Bottle from a 87-88 TC. I have the 87-88 Dual Fan setup on my '85 that I bought a couple years ago now. I had saved an overflow from my '86, but it does not fit correctly.

The one I am using has just a small crack in it, so if anyone knows any good glues/epoxies for those plastic overflows--that could be helpful too.

At The Track / FMC Day at Milan Dragway - Thursday September 29th
Ford Motorsports Club has again rented the Track at Milan Dragway. This is a cheap day to watch, but a more expensive day to test and tune. Although, when I have attended these in the past, there usually is fewer cars which equals lots of opportunity to run down the track and mostly Fords so it may be worth it. I may actually see if the Bird can lay down a 15 or two.

At The Track / Waterford Hills Road Course
I took my recently acquired TC (almost a year now) out to Waterford Hills Road Course a couple weeks ago. It was fun.

Engine Tech / High Compression 2.3 NA (with a Turbo Block)
Has anyone here ever done a high-compression naturally aspirated 2.3L? I have a couple 2.3 Turbo Blocks laying around. As a project, I thought it would be neat to make a high-strung 4 pot out of one of them, but keep it Naturally Aspirated. I would probably drop it in a Jeep or Ranger. What do you think?

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / Black with Red Cloth Interior
Hello, my '85 was totaled the other day by a friend and a tree. In the not too distant future I plan to be looking for another one. So, any of you that have or know of a 85-86 TC or XR7 for sale, (Especially one with a Red Cloth Interior!) please post it and or send me a PM.

Chances are I may just try to find a rust-free Shell to make a Budget RallyCross car out of with all the parts I have, but the idea of Mint 1986 Cougar XR7 would be enough to keep me out of the dirt (for awhile...again).

So, no new RallyCross pictures this month (unless you want to see some of the TJ!).

Have a good week,

At The Track / Muddy Bird
I only had one other car in my class (a MR2) the past RallyCross, and I already had 3rd place for my class wrapped up for the year...I mostly just had fun at this RallyCross with lots more wheel-spin (and Vehicle Spins!) than advised. Here are a couple pics:

Lots of fun,

At The Track / Birds can fly, right?
I went to the best RallyCross ever last weekend in Adrian, MI. Lots of fun. I finished last in my class this time. The car was starving for fuel the first half of the event, so I wasn't driving it as hard as I wanted to in a couple areas. I added 3 more gallons of fuel at the break and was able to go a bit faster (still haven't actually seen the times! I was having too much fun!) There are videos (search Adrian RallyCross) that can easily be found of the track if you're curious. Attached are a couple pics.

A couple sidebars...whatever noise I had at and above 5500 (last believed to be exhaust issues) has worked it's way out! And the 2 X 3 Box (1/8 wall) installed the night before the event to replace a section of pseudo-frame held up fantastic.

Misc Tech / Evaporator for Heater Core
I am going to do yet another Heater Core Change...and yes I deserved this one. Anyways, the last time I did this I left the evaporator core (the rest of the AC has been removed) in the car in case I needed to use it as the Heater Core. Sounds crazy maybe, but if I put the proper connectors on the heater lines, and a flow control valve (VW,or old Mopar Style) it seems like it should work.

Tell me why this would be a bad idea before I try it.

Thanks,
Cooter

At The Track / RallyCross and Milan Dragway
RallyCross:
I had the Bird out at a RallyCross again last Saturday. Good fun. I broke the Passenger Side Sway Bar Bracket (and a 12-14 chunk of Pseudo Frame) off before the event, so it took some getting used to running without the sway when transitioning. I wouldn't have competed if the event was as rough as they normally are, but this one was on a Horse Track so it was smooth as could be. An Air Pressure adjustment (dropped the rears) between rounds better balanced the car with the lack of front sway, and I ended up finishing ahead of all the rotarys there (RX2, 2-RX7s, and a RX8) which was a very nice feeling. A couple of them were running Rally Gravel tires too compared to my Dunlops Winters Tires. The two RWD Vehicles that beat me (Miata and a Taco) also both had Rally Tires.

No Pics Yet, but an honorable? mention here:

More Pics to follow.. and results can be found on the Detroit Region SCCA Site (in case someone is actually that interested!)

Milan:

FMC NIGHT AT MILAN DRAGWAY THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 17, 2009  The club will make a return to Milan on Thursday September 17.  Cost to race is members $45 - non members $60 (includes a 1 year membership to the club) and spectators 12 and over $5.  Gates open at 5:30 racing starts promptly at 6:00.

I doubt the Bird will be running down the track (probably next spring), but it will probably be there. I think it is more expensive to run FMC nights, but it is the cheapest night to Spectate!

Peace,
Cooter
