whered u get your 351 from? i was thinking if my 302 finally goes, that i would try to get one out of a bronco, but most people i tell this to say i'd be better of with a 302ho because a truck 351 will be very heavy and not as powerful is i think. anyone here with a truck 351 think its better to go 351 or 302?

they lie! go with a 351w for sure. any motor up till 94 is a solid flat tappet motor. if you go 94 and up they are hyd. roller motors. the lightning motor is rated at 310 hp with gt40 heads and intake. if you are going with a mild build you can copy one of those motors. home port the heads and throw some nitrous too it and you will have a bad little street car. my buddy has all the makings of a 393 stroker in his garage he is trying to sell.

a 393 stroker might be a good consideration for a buget build...i assume you want to stick to a budget... that is a 3.85 stroker crank. 351w rods, and 302 pistons.

I've been looking into the 393 stroker for my car as well, I've read a lot of good about the durability of these.
I'd think that with aluminum heads and intake, a 393 would weigh somewhat less than a iron-headed HO.
Power-to-weight wise over the HO, a well-built 393 would whip the 5.0's ass everytime.
Mine's gonna be carbed though, at least for awhile.

yeah it is a good cheep motor right there. 351w truck rods are pretty cheep and i have seen them hold 600+ hp on turbo cars...i can provide links to soport this. so with those, a cast crank {3.85} and a set of forged 302 pistons{500$} you have a 900-1000${including barrings/rings}bottem end good for all the power that motor will make on pump gas n/a. machine work on the block will be about 200-300$ and the block will be about 100. so for less than 1500$ you have a short block. carb is no problem, get a nice 750 on he and your set.
how much money do you have to put into the motor alone and how fast/how much power do you want? maybee we can give some better advice here if you fill in a few ?'s.
any 393 will whop a stock 5.0 but that is not a fair compaison. all other parts aside, it is a 90 ci difference. a built 302 will whoop a stock 302's ass ya no? so it is hard to say.
if you are comfortable building your own motor, 393 all the way. the bottem end for both motors {assuming 450+ hp is your goal} will cost you about the same. that is pushin the limits of eithermotors stock parts. so why not opt for 90ci extra?
as far as the weight difference....what are your intentions witht he car? if its a stright line car...who cares? itll have enough power to make up for it. if its for the twisties than yes it is a bit of a problem but nothing the 95 cobra R didnt adress. it had a 351w and was built to turn. i wouldnt worry about it to much. you can build a 393 all motor to run 11's on pump gas. throw some nitrous to it and your in buisness.
