Lounge / Want a fun trip down memory lane?
Oh dear goodness, what a time to have been alive.

X

I almost forgot I once had matching T-birds with no V6's between the two.

I do remember you and your wife coming through CJ. It's amazing how this is jogging so many memories. I also remember your Neon, and you being pissed at the adaptive ECM when you put the intake on it. Also remember the burnout you did when you left CJ. Didn't you put the old school Pizza wheels on that thing?

You still happen to have the old 600 sitting in the garage? I know it's been forever since I was out there, but I do remember that 600 and remember wanting it back then.

I had one pizza wheel for a while, I think, or I at least tried it on.  The car could do a sweet burnout when I beat the shiznit out of it.

The 600 is gone-zo, too much rust, in too many pieces and a salvage title.  Too bad because it, supposedly only had 17k on it.

Hah!  I did forget to check back in.  I think the last thing I really posted was that I was getting married, we got married, we went to the last CJ after that and I think that's where it left off.

My T-bird still sits in the garage at my mom's house, new suspension bits all under it but badly in need of paint, etc.  I'll get to it someday.  I still have all the EFI parts I bought from vinnietbird!  Otherwise on the car front I put about 200K miles on the '05 Neon I bought new, changed the timing belt at 180k and overheated it to death at 202k.  The car did well considering I never took shiznit for care of it.  Ironically it died on the way home from my in-laws in NC where I picked up a nice '04 Mercury Mountaineer as we needed a bigger family car and AWD/4WD.  After we got home I scoured CL around where my in-laws live (rust-free, baby!) and found a sweet yellow '01 Ford Focus.  Sent my FIL to go look at it, he said it was good and picked it up for me.  Got it home last July and I've been loving being back in Fords since then.

I worked at a body shop for about a year, then got fired because someone else was screwing around in a customer's car.  Ended up unemployed for about a year and a half and then got the job I have now.  Working at a circuit board manufacturer whose primary customers are defense and aerospace contractors, etc.  Started out as an operators, then after 3 years I got promoted to 2nd shift supervisor and about a year and a half ago I made the switch to 3rd shift.  It was a change for the better but life is a little harder now.  This is the longest I've had a job and probably the 'best' job I've had.  I wasn't even going to apply because the 'requirements' were way beyond my experience.  But, my wife, like she tends to do, pushed me to do it anyway and I'm so glad she did.

In between that time, my wife and I had our son (Sept 2013), his name is Fox and he just turned 3 at the end of September.  It was pretty unexpected, my wife and I were together for about 5 years and it had never happened.  Granted, we never really tried to have children but we never took preventative measures either.  You can imagine the surprise when my wife told me.  Now we're expecting a 2nd and my wife is due in February '17.  This one will be a girl, so I guess you could say I'm going to up the difficulty on this one... or so I'm told.

It's good to read about everyone else and see what folks have been up to.  I'm glad a lot of the 'old gang' is still here.

Holy shiznitballs, what is this a class reunion?  I'll add my 2 cents a little while later this morning once I get home.

LEADS on T-Bird/Cougar Stuff For Sale / WOW, see this one?

I am sooooooo tempted to look at that. It's about 15 miles away from me...

You were the first person I thought of when I just saw this thing.  102 miles?!

It's very low-option but nothing like my '84 that had vinyl seats, passenger mirror delete, A/C and V8!

Looks like this car has no rear defrost, either.  And... power antenna on AM radio is too much!

Other Vehicles / Anyone in the Ripley, WV area?
My wife has talked to the manager at speedway and they've been very cooperative so far, I think the charity thing might have to be my next move... I never heard back one way or another from the one syard but failing that it looks like I might have to find a local charity if any exist.

Other Vehicles / Anyone in the Ripley, WV area?
This is probably a long shot but I'm wondering if  there are any board members in the Ripley/Fairplain WV area.  The short  version of the story is that my wife and I bought a 2nd vehicle ('04 Mountaineer yay Ford!) while we  were visiting my in-laws in NC and while we were driving it and my Neon  home, I killed my Neon on I-77 near the Ripley/Fairplain exit in WV.  We packed everything into the Mountaineer and headed the additional  200 miles home with the Neon still sitting in the Speedway parking lot.

The dilemma I'm faced with is this.  The engine is dead, I ran it hot  and tried to push for one more exit.  It started rattling, losing oil  pressure and finally coasted to a stop at the entrance of the Speedway  with a cloud of blue smoke.  Trying to crank it over it sounds like  there's no compression at all.  The car has 201k miles, the body is  rough and the car isn't really worth the expense of getting the car home  (200 miles) to just s it here.

I've called all the nearest junkyards in the area and no one has even been  interested in picking it up.  I thought I would post here and find out  if there's anyone in the area who would want this thing to s it.  I'm not in a position to go get  the car and the longer it sits there the more likely it is to become a  problem.  Being that we just bought another car I'm not in a financial  position to pay $350+ to have it towed here, either.  Basically I want  rid of the car.  I do have clear title and keys for it in my possession.

Anyone in the area that could help me out or does anyone know how I can get rid of this car from 200 miles away?  It has a new-ish battery and also four aluminum rims to sort of bump up the s value.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Cars you miss
I miss my '85.... not gone but it's been sitting in a garage untouched mostly for about 5 years now.  I wish I'd never gotten rid of the matching 'sister car' '84 TC I got for $350.... Oh that 'TARBO' sound.

Daminc, that's what I realized I needed to do today... I'm now fervently searching for the  USB cable for my camera...

Lounge / Garage door opener frustration
I haven't looked at it in a few days, but the power head definitely sits a good 10 - 12 inches behind where the truss goes across.  So lifitng it above that would still stop the 'trolley' on the opener track from coming back as far as it needs to.

Lounge / Garage door opener frustration
Howdy y'all.  It seems as though I don't post here anymore unless I have a non-fox-cougar/t-bird related problem but the truth is that my own fox t-bird has been sitting for the better part of a few years.  I has a shame :nono:

Anyway, the current fiasco I'm dealing with has to do with this new Genie garage door opener I scored for only $80....  I started the install only to find that the "truss" that may or may not actually hold my garage roof up is heinously low compared to the height that my garage door opener must sit at.  Basically this:  The horizontal "beam" (read 2x4) in my garage needs to be sectioned out to allow the garage door opener to hang high enough to allow the door to open to the fullest and NOT hit the garage door opener track.  I have a Genie 1/2 hp screw-drove door opener, and even mounting the "screw drive track" right against this 2x4 of the 'truss' it is still too low.  My question is this:

Can I section out the horizontal section of the truss and box-frame it up with more 2x4s and still prevent my garage from collapsing while giving the nice new Genie door opener room to operate as it's intended?  The garage is a cheap, pre-fab sort constructed in the 60's at the earliest. It is comprised of a cement pad, a perimeter of cinder blocks (the threshold of the man-door is easily 8" off the ground) and cheap wood siding and framing consisting entirely of 2x4's.

Lounge / Small engine frustrations
Well today before work I tore into it again, bought a half-ass rebuild kit that had needle valve, seat and bowl gasket. And after I cleaned everything I could get to, including those small holes in the float bowl valve.  Once I put it back together it ran great.  I didn't have to adjust either needle valve screw (I set them both around 1.5 turns out from fully closed) and all was well, I let it warm up, used it some and purposely stopped it and restarted it and all was well.  But, I had to get ready for work, so I let my wife take over and within about 20 minutes it stumbled and died 5 times.  I'm lost again.

A couple things to note, I have a bad feeling about the air filter as the last time I restarted it there was a grayish smoke from the exhaust once it fired up, making me think it might've been running rich.  Also, there was a rubber gasket inside the fuel cap with holes in it but my neighbor took it off because it wouldn't stay in and nearly fell into the tank a few times.  Is that part of the cap necessary so as not to create a vacuum lock inside the tank?
