Other Vehicles / Why im building a t bird
I built this, 521 Kaase BB, Jerico DR4, 4:30 spooled, narrowed n mini tubbed. My daughters want to race, and wanted Jr. Dragsters...way too expensive, and no they are not driving the Mustang. Just rolled it out late last summer.
Wanted to get the Mustang down the track, but trashed the rear doing test hits, by the time I rebuilt even bigger...season was over.

So, instead of driving the Stang, or the cabbage on a Jr Dragster, I bought them (they picked it out) a Turbo Coupe.  got the 393 that came out of the Mustang, the old 9 inch housing and and a center section, gonna go from there. Got a nice Toploader, and all the goodies for that but probably stab a C4 in it for the girls...maybe.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Body moulding
when the orig owner repainted the car - the mist blue to black (ugh, what was he thinking) he painted over the body molding in the same gloss black, then added a red pin stripe tape back to it...he also painted the bumpers with the same paint and primer. The bumpers will be easy as its flaking off now.  But that side or mid body molding isn't flaking.

Not sure how to go about getting that off...talked to my powder coat, soda blaster guy...and he doesn't  not recommend any sort of blasting. May just leave it, but I am going back to either white or the orig blue. Not a show car, but a track car, but still would like it to look nice.

Any thoughts?

Body/Appearance/Interior / Electric Windows
Ive got electric windows in my 86 Tcoupe, not sure if the Birds ever came with manual crank windows at all. Wondering if anyone has ever converted the electric to manual?
I'm stripping the car for a track car, and want to cut the weight, but able to crank the glass....until down the road when I go lexan.

Thanks

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / 86 Turbo Coupe Fuel System
I am stripping an 86 T Coupe. I carefully removed the fuel lines from the engine to the tank. Completely intact, including the bracket that holds them all to the floor pan. The only thing broken were the retainer clips on the fuel line fittings.
Tank and pump too, tank has surface rust on top but no leaks, pump was working...ask me how I know.

PM me for more info or pics.

Suspension/Steering / Spindles
Just picked up a K member, A arms, coil over kit and camber caster plates for my 86 TC.  The kit is for the 79 - 93 Fox platforms, so has the shorter A arms.

I have been researching the spindles for these things, and what I think I have figured out, the 79 - 93 will fit.  However the 79-86 are smaller and wont take the bigger brakes, where the 87-93 spindles are all the same (4 and 8 cyl)  and will accept the V8 caliper, rotors etc with a bearing change for the rotors?

Have I got this right, be interested who has a Fox 80sd K member and 5 lug...I know the SN95 spindles will work but I don't want the wheels to be wider than what they are. Drag car, not too worried about turn radius and handling.

Thanks, Gydyup.

Assembly / Disassembly How-to / 86 turbo coupe side moulding
when the original owner painted the car, he painted over (gloss black) the side mouldings then used red pinstripe tape to put the red accent back on....actually it didn't look too bad.

Wondering if soda blasting will take off this paint and not harm the original rubber trim?

User Rides / Daddy Daughter 86 Turbo Coupe
This is my first Fox body, and T Bird...old girl friend had a T coupe, and I always loved them.  Really fond of the Glidden Pro Stock birds, so I have a vision.

My girls wanted Jr Dragsters, cost way to much money so we settled on a Drag ET/Street strip project...was looking for another Mustang to go along with my 67.  Really wanted a 75-78 Mustang, but this fell in our laps, and the girls thought the Turbo Coupe was way cooler than the Mustangs...so here we go.

Initial effort will be the Windsor Swap, and Mini Tub with 9 inch (because I can, and have a lot of 9 inch stuff laying around) and maybe some local cruises, and test n tune nights.

I have tons of stuff from my 67 68 Mustangs.  I shifted my current 67 from a 393/Toploader to a 521/Jerico,  I was in the process of rebuilding 393, to a 408.  So I have this motor, Toploader and lots of 9 inch stuff to make this a budget build using leftovers in the shop.  I will probably will go C4 at the start, maybe clutch later.  Down the road maybe a turbo set up on the Windsor?

This maybe will keep the girls from harping on me to have my 67.  I built the 67 from from a wrecked drag car, initial intentions were to bump up the small block and just make it a nice little street car, that got out of hand.  The only thing I didn't do in it was shoot the exterior paint and machine work on the block and rotating assembly.  All done in my back yard shop.

So, who knows where this T coupe will go....I tend to get into a project and go a little over the top.

Engine Swapping / 86 Turbo Coupe 351 swap
Picked up really clean 86 T coupe for my girls this weekend. Father Daughters Drag - grudge, test and tune fun car.

Going with the 351 based motor I pulled out of my 67 Mustang.

Lots of interesting and confussing info here. I am a 67 68 Mustang guy, never paid attention to Fox stuff..but always love the Birds.  Daughters wanted the Turbo Coupe over the Fox Mustang as well, its "cooler" dad.

Soooo, cutting to the chase, which Tube K member is the best to go with. I see all sorts of back and forth on shims, wont work, A arms etc....

Anyone done this with aftermarket K member...want to put this  thing on a diet an cut pounds wherever I can.

Thanks Gydyup

Drivetrain Tech / Swapping to 9 inch?
I just picked up this 86 Turbo Coupe, its really in great shape, still has the motor, auto trans, intact interior.
Plan is a father and two daughters race project,  turn it into either a street/strip or strip only grudge test and tune car s...and later full on Drag car.
Also toying with a drag week project..too many options. Regardless the rear will need to be solid.

I have a lot of stuff left over from my 67 Mustang, that I went BBF on. 393 W, carbs, dist,  Toploader, 9 inch center sections and axles, disc brake kits etc. I kept this stuff knowing I would build another drag type car.

Soooo, I want to use as much stuff on this build as I have instead of buying stuff.  when I went BB on the 67, I started at the rear, and worked my way forward beefing the car up, gonna follow the same logic here.

I am a 67 68 Mustang guy, leaf springs, clutch cars.....never had this Fox stuff before, so I am new to this and out of my comfort zone.  I finished my 67 (my 6th Mustang)  this past summer; it is a 521 Kaase motor, Jerico DR4, mini tubbed and narrowed 9 inch. The only thing I didn't do was the machine work on the block and balancing, shooting the paint and narrowing the  9 inch housing.  I only add this, not to toot, but hopefully quell any comments about experience etc.

I'm wondering should I keep this Triangulated four link set up, I don't want the rear, I want a 9 inch, so build a bolt in housing for this, or shift to a more traditional 4 link coil over set up. Point being, if I am changing rears, go all the way or is the stock triangulated set up with a 9 gonna just as well?

Not sure which way I will go with the motor, using the 393 its gonna be a 351 W base and I have a bunch of parts. I was on the path for a 408 when I shifted to BB.  I am pondering carb clutched car, or turboed auto.  I will use a tubular K member of some type. (Man, there is a lot of confussing info out there about that.

Thanks in advance for your help and patience.....

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / 86 Turbo Coupe drivetrain/parts
I just picked up this turbo coupe, pretty much intact, gonna turn it into a track car. Not sure yet how far I will strip it down.
I do know I am not going to use the 4Cyl Turbo and trans, nor the wheels. I also have a box of coils and other electrical parts.

I am 3rd owner, orig owner was some old dude (Portsmouth VA not Pasadena), garage kept car, sold it to the guy I bought if from, he kept it garaged, and was in process of pulling and rebuilding eng when hard times fell, and he had to sell it.  He said the motor ran great, he was gonna go twin turbo on it, and bump it up, but never got the jack. The inside of the valve cover looks more like 900 miles than 90,000 miles.

Not sure yet on interior parts etc.

Head is off now, and I will be pulling the block and trans etc soon as it stops snowing here!

If your interested in any of this stuff, let me know. I can ship, but its on your nickel.

You can PM me for txt number and or email, and I will provide all the picks you need.

I don't have prices really, we can talk about it. I'm looking to move it, not store it or make a killing.

Located in Chesapeake Va.

Thanks XX
