CFI 3.8L - Passenger side O2 sensor removeal tips needed

Anybody have a secret way of removing the passenger side O2 sensor on a CFI 3.8? The angle is too great for me to use a u-joint. I can't get an open end wrench on it. Can't get at it from the bottom? I vaguely remember when I had a shop to it several years ago, they mentioned dropping the engine. They didn't remove my exhaust, so it opened up a weak spot in the exhaust past the pre-cats.

would it be to much effort to just pull the manifold out and do it on a bench?

Ok, I had to check the manual for this one.
 for a 3.8, It says to remove the heated sensors with a sensor removal tool T94P-9472 or equivalent.

Sorry that's all I got. but I thought I replaced mine in the mid 90s with regular tools. Been so long I can't remember.. But I know I don't own one of those sensor tools.

My o2 sensor socket looks like a std 6 point impact socket but has a slot in the side for the wires, similar to the one above... Got mine at Advance, dunno if it'd work on a 3.8...

That'll be my route if I can't get it off otherwise. I'd rather not remove a manifold that's been on for 23 years.

I've got two of the normal O2 sensor sockets. The problem is that when I get the socket on the sensor, I can't get a ratchet to turn in the space down there. When I add a u-joint, it almost maxes it out and doesn't get any torque on the sensor. Angle is too great for an impact u-joint.

Hmm, that might help. I thought of putting a crowfoot on it, but need to remove the thermactor tube that runs by the sensor. I'll take a looksie when I get back Monday and see if that may be the trick.

Ive got the standard 7/8 o2 socket from advanced, not the one from tool source shown above. The passenger side is a PITA to do(then again, what isnt on the passenger side) but i changed mine not to long ago, you can remove the egr tube and make it a little easier, but if you do, be careful not to tear a hole in it, very easy to do, but mine had a crack in it where it turned into the exhaust manifold, so it was getting replaced when i did the o2 sensors. Although if i remember right, i was able to break mine loose from the top and get my ratchet-wrench on it from the bottom and get it loose

I fought and fought and got it out with the normal O2 socket. I should have bought the crowfoot socket daminc suggested earlier. Bought one to put it back in. Would have made removal a snap. D'oh. :o

Installed some 4-wire sensors and mileage is back to acceptable levels. Yah!
