Cam choices

Ok, IF I have to chanve my lifters, I may go ahead and just put a new cam in it too. I looked at a few, and know what most of the things mean, but what is a good cam for my car? As of now it's a near factory 2 barrel CFI with manifolds and a gutted Y? I looked at a few but I don't know what to change it to. One is a Comp Cams Xtream Energy with 218/224 duration @ .050 and .495/.500 intake/ext. The other is a FRPP with 214/224 duration @ .050 and .472/.496 Int/Ext. Are these even clost to what I need or is there something better. I'd also like to add that I have an 83 5.0 in mine and it has the flat tappet cam.

I don't think you can run anything other than a stock cam with CFI. To go with something else you might need to do a carb conversion.

diy in my sig,, converations from the past

look under head/cam/piston info

an E cam is one choice mentioned for streetablity.

the stang guys are lopping along with the F cams and doing pretty well,,,but,,,,,,,they can also breeth to.:grinno: but im sure thats gonna be taken care of shortly, correct?

you never did get the resistance check on those mystery "gray" injectors that are suppose to be blue.

i think in all honesty, you really need to make sure you have a plan on the intake before you plan on a cam.,,or trust me,, you and i will be on two parallel paths with the same timing problems.

megasquirt and my stealth intake will probably be my way out and keep it fuel injected.  Ill just have to come up with the 86 5.0 fuel rail with orange tops.  then i can wave bye bye to my factory ecm. Megasquirt guys are friendly and are willing to talk.  the whole megasquire system was based on Chevy's version of CFI (tbi) anyway.  In addition, they now have confidence in thier past few months of testing with TFI dizzy's.  Some are out there running now.

Back from the dead!!!
Since I got a carb now, I can get away with more cam wise. I was still thinking about a 218/224 cam profile hit or miss. My question is lift. I have seen anything from 480-ish to about 520-ish. With the stock rockers/pushrods for now, what can I get away with. "mods" to date are E3 stang intake, 1" carb spacer, 4160 with a few minor mods, headers, MSD box. More little  that doesn't matter. I have asked a few people but I'd like a mojority oppion here please.

I'd go with a cam with some where between a 210-218* durration @.050 and a lift some where around 480-500 lift. Try to find a cam that has a bit more durration on the exhaust side (ie 210 intake/215 exhaust) as most stock Ford heads benefit from increased exhaust durration (the ports kinda suck:hick: ) Anything more radical and your heads and intake will be over matched. You would also loose a bunch of low speed torque, which is important in these cars. Remember with cams bigger isn't better all the time.
