    Default 7.5 axle shafts

Is Moser my only choice for replacement 7.5 axle shafts? I found out here: http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/...ad.php?t=24735 that I have a bent right (passenger) axle shaft and I'm going to replace both sides. I'm just wondering if I can get them any where else.

You can buy them NOS and have weaker shafts at roughly 4X the price.....

    You COULD try Strange....

For around $250 with the studs already pressed in for the set, the Mosers are quite the bargain.

Well turns out Moser raised it's prices. The shafts now cost $295, as they are a custom order. I ended up ordering shafts from Yukon Gears. They cost $120 each (or $240 for the set) and are made of the same material that Moser uses. Prices for the Yukon set may vary as you have to order them from a distributer and not straight from Yukon.

If anyone is interested the specs are as follows:

Yukon part# YAF750006 or 21184. 28 spline, 30" long axle shaft with a 4X4.25" bolt pattern for Ford Thunderbird/Mercury Cougar 1985.5-1988. Fits 7.5 or 8.8 axles with 9" or 10" drums. Will not work with ABS (ie Turbo coupe rears).

Yes the 7.5 and 8.8 axles are the same between drum brake rears but the Turbo Coupe rear axles have an ABS ring. The drum brake rears (8.8 or 7.5) do not.

As far as axle shaft lengths....

    '85.5-'88 Cougar/Tbird with a 7.5" = 88 XR7 with an 8.8" = TC with 8.8"

As stated; the TC is setup with the ABS ring.

Earlier fox T-bird/Cougar axle shafts measure the same length as a Fox Mustang.

94-98 Mustang axle shafts measure the same length as our the later Cougarbird 7.5/XR7 8.8 , but are 5 lug.

Well it turns out I'm not even getting the Yukon shafts. I found a perfect used axle from an 88 Cougar I'm going to use. So the axle, a new axle bearing, and an axle seal and I'll be in business.

    Sorry, Paul but no.

80-82's MIGHT have had the Fox Mustang length axle shafts, but the 83-85's had the same length as the SN-95's (94-98) and as the rest of the Aero Tbirds/Cougars. The bearing surface was just different on the 85.5-88 7.5's.

I have compared plenty of the 83-85 cars, and they have been the same.

JeremyB's chart in one of the sticked threads covers all the dimensions.
