Default Project - The Bat in The Cat

Found a perfect header panel on Wednesday and got around to installing it yesterday.
Started working on sanding and priming the Turbo Coupe hood, should have it on either tonight after work or tomorrow. Pulling the seats out again tomorrow, along with the carpet, and then wiring up my stereo. Hopefully, I'll have enough time to put the DashCap on too.
Carpet is ordered and should be here in a few days!
So, if everything keeps going like it has, and the weather cooperates, by the end of next weekend the Cougar should be back together and just about ready to get painted!!! Whoo hoo!!!!!

I'll take some progress pics tomorrow.

I'm just excited that it's finally so close to being back together!

Ha! Got some pics sooner than I said!

I had some daylight left after I got done work today, so I decided to tackle swapping the hood! I knew it would've been smarter to do it when I had a friend to help, but where's the fun in that?

First, here's a pic of the new header panel. Not completely tightened all the way yet, and I have some of the lights out for cleaning and polishing.

And here are a couple pics of the dirty engine compartment (with the hood out of the way).

    Here's the Turd-o-coupe hood.

Now, I would've taken step by step pics if I had a helper, or 4 more arms, but just pretend there are pics here.
    1. I'm juggling the hood by myself, getting it in position.
    2. I'm holding the hood in place with one hand, threading in a bolt with the other.
    3. I have on side done, so I'm shimmying around the front of the car to get to the other side without letting the hood go.
    4. I thread the other two bolts with one hand, and begin tightening.
    5. I'm tightening the 4th and final bolt and... SNAP... the retainer nut breaks.
    <insert cussing here>
    6. I get a retainer nut off the old hood and guzzle down a beer really fast.
    7. I loosen up the side with the broken retainer, so the hood is only supported by one hinge and one hand.
    8. I lift the side of the hood... with my head... and manage to get the broken retainer out and the new one in!
    9. Tighten bolts, check fit, adjust a little and...

    VOILA!!!

    Problem...
I think the A/C bracket hit the driver's side scoop.
    Check it out...

Okay... I "think" I have an extra set of scoops somewhere. If not... um...
    Vinnie?
Yoo hoo? This thing on? Can you hear me Vinnie?

Anyway, it's done, and Jill Wagner approves!!!

She says "You gotta put Mercury on your list!"

Enough for tonight, time to drink beer!

Removed the cracked hood scoop today and saw that it wasn't that bad. Patched the crack up, letting it dry now. Took apart my corner lights and removed the orange reflector. Epoxied them back together, and now I have clear corner lights. Put all the lights back in the header panel, adjusted the hood, and everything looks good! Waiting for the filler to dry, then do some sanding on the scoop. Also have to grind down the top hump in the A/C bracket so this doesn't happen again. Lots of minor clean up today in between the things mentioned. I'll probably wait until the carpet gets here this week before I do anything else major.
Had a slight problem too. I removed the battery to install the header panel, and after I put the battery back in, the car wouldn't start! Checked the battery and it only has 10 volts. I haven't driven the car in a year, but have started it every so often and let it run for about 20 minutes each time, and revved the engine some. I'll have to take the battery to work tomorrow and charge it up. Oh well... no vroom vroom today.

I can't wait to see that thing all finished and painted up...those seats seem vaguely familiar...lol.

For what it's worth, the same thing happened to me with the T/C hood...I ground that A/C bracket down to the bolt head pretty much...still had problems. There is but one proper solution.....

A SET OF CHUCK'S POLY MOUNTS...best damn things since sliced bread...a $20 poly trans mount would probably help also...I believe they are identical to the Mustang AOD tranny mounts.

    Good luck!
