Alternate Cruise Controls

Did our cars ever come with cruise control controls (excuse the redundancy) that weren't in the wheel?  There were several steering wheel options that didn't have cruise buttons in them.  So do those cars just not have cruise, or are the controls somewhere else?  I have a wheel (might have come from a Capri, don't know, never seen it in any Cougar) that has no cruise buttons.  The wheel itself is very cool looking, leather wrapped with the cat's head in the center, maybe 4-spoke.  Would I have any other options to install cruise control buttons elsewhere?  Just curious.  Thanks.

That was dealer installed. A few people here have that, I think. Hard to find nowadays.

I like the in-dash idea.  Correction; the wheel I have is a 3 spoke (at 3, 6, and 9), and best I can tell, it came from an ASC McLaren Capri.  But no cruise buttons.  I'll conduct a poll; I've got this Capri wheel and an '88 TC wheel.  Which would you prefer.  I plan to put one of them in my '86 GS.  Thanks again.

That's pretty cool. It's just a bolt/plug-in replacement of your normal turn signal stalk?

Mine had one of those turn signal stalk cruise levers, but it wasn't hooked up. The car only had 32k miles on it when I got it, so I'd like to know the story there. A dealer option that never got finished? Maybe?

Oh well, the high-beam switch portion went bad and I replaced it with a "regular" non-cruise stalk. I think I still have the cruise stalk around somewhere.

Guys,,
a lot of chevy passenger cars from our era came factory with the stalk cruise control.

chevy malibu 2dr comes to mind but countless others had it as well as our very own 83 chevy 2d citation with the unbreakable 2.5L 4cyl

There's a guy out there that makes machined replicas of the MOMO cruise switches from the original Saleen Mustang.  They bolt under the hub of MOMO/Sparco racing steering wheels.  You have to use Fox Mustang cruise switches with it, but it looks slick.

I think almost everything GM from the 70's into the late 90's had stalk-mounted cruise controls.  I think they literally used the same stalk/switch on every vehicle (car/truck/whatever) for 20+ years.  I always thought that was a little much going on in such a small space.  I don't really remember what Chrysler did for cruise, but I always remember the steering wheel controls being a Ford thing.  Ford was putting them in the wheel in the early 70's, and that's just when I started paying attention.  My first car ('77 Cougar XR7) had them.  Loved that car!  Good times.

My Daytona has it on a stalk. I cant say I care for the cruise controls to be in that location.
