hey guys. i just got insurance on my tbird the other day (after sittin for over a year) and decided to go on the highway. i slammed her WOT at about 35mph, and it didnt shift, stayed in 3rd gear. then i did a few more runs around town, and the fastest i could drive for it to downshift into 1st gear was only 10 mph. and about 25 for it to kickdon into 2nd. i messed with the kickdown cable, and it was right where i left it over a year ago. moving it only made shifting much more early.

even at WOT, the gears will change much more early too.

changing gears before were
44 into second
72 into 3rd

now its about

36 into second
55 into third

and DAMN the car is so slow i could barely merge onthe highway. anybody kow whats going on? is there to much pressure? any held greatly appreciated

It sounds as though the filter may be clogged, fluid level may be low or the valvebody could have build-up in it. I would recommend doing a trans service then see how it works. Almost sounds like it's not holding good line-pressure so it short shifts into the next gear...my car will react in a similar fashion if the fluid gets low. BTW, stay away from transmission additives...except MAYBE that K&W stuff.

My car will shift at about 5300rpm when I let it shift on it's own...when the tranny fluid is low, sometimes it'll hit 3rd at less then 4000rpm and bog...going around hard corners it usually doesn't want to downshift at all. I'm going to be getting a 4x4 trans-pan soon which holds more fluid and has a little sump in the middle to help prevent starvation. I'm probably going to make a system of baffles and trap doors to keep the fluid at the pick-up. When I do this, I'll let you guys know.

Good Luck,
Don

Dr Drag....

At WOT My AOD with a Trans Go kit shifts at 5800 on the 1-2, but shifts 5300 on the 2-3. The TV cable is adjusted as short as possible and still acheive WOT. I'd like to up the 2-3 shift as I run a lock up converter, and loose approx a tenth at the track vs manual shifting at 5800. Any suggestions???

My only useful advice would be to continue manually shifting, rather than going into the valvebody and trying to screw around with that. The trans-go kit sounds like it's a little more agressive than the B&M kit I installed. Did your kit come with a new spring, spacer, and seals for the 2-3 accumulator piston?

Are these your speeds to shift when accelerating, or shifting down? Mine shifts into 2nd around 24 and 3rd around 46. Talking about slow....and it shifts rough also. It's the 3.8, and I'd love to change the shift times to max the RPM's a little more. Any suggestions how to do so?

When I purchased my car, it had been sitting for quite a few years. It would shift extrememly late and it turned out the problem was the bellcrank linkage on the side of the tranny had rusted and frozen in place. The TV cable wouldnt move anymore. It was an easy fix. JUst my $.02.
